Caramel-Apple Bars with Cake Mix

I prepared them one night since I was craving cake, caramel, and apples.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 40 mins
Total Time: 55 mins
Servings: 24
Yield: 24 bars

Ingredients

  1. 1 (15.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
  2. ½ cup unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  3. 1 cup evaporated milk, divided
  4. 3 medium apples – peeled, cored and chopped
  5. 1 (11 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
  6. ¼ cup cinnamon chips, or more to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Place cake mix in a bowl and cut in butter with 2 knives or a pastry blender. Stir in 1/2 cup evaporated milk, then apples. Pour 1/2 of the batter into the prepared pan and set remaining batter aside.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  4. While bottom bar layer is baking, combine caramel candies and 1/2 cup evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat; cook and stir until melted. Remove from the heat.
  5. Remove the baking pan from the oven and drizzle caramel mixture over top. Sprinkle with cinnamon chips and pour reserved batter over top. Return to the oven and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 20 to 30 more minutes.
  6. The cinnamon chips are optional.
