Ingredients

  1. Nonstick cooking spray
  2. 1 (1-pound) bag fresh pizza dough
  3. All-purpose flour, for dusting
  4. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  5. 1 cup Chunky Tomato Sauce, recipe follows
  6. 10 basil leaves, torn
  7. 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  8. 1/2 cup white mushrooms, sliced
  9. 1/2 cup broccoli florets, chopped
  10. 1/2 green pepper, diced
  11. 1/2 medium red onion, sliced
  12. Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  13. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  14. 1/2 medium onion, diced
  15. 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  16. 1 (28-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  17. 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves
  18. 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
  19. Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a 13 by 18-inch baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Roll out pizza dough on a floured work surface into a rectangle about the same size as the baking sheet. Place the dough onto the baking sheet, brush with olive oil and using a fork, dot holes all over the crust. Bake in oven for 8 minutes.
  3. Remove the pizza crust from oven and top with the sauce, basil leaves, half the cheese and the vegetables. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and top with remaining cheese. Bake pizza for 15 to 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  4. In a medium pot heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and saute for 3 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for another 15 minutes.

The sauce is great. I added sugar to cut the acid! This was so good!

Great starter recipe. Can be adapted to suit your tastes and go from basic to gourmet. I am allergic to basil so I just left it out but understand that many people find it overwhelming so would recommend an easy hand with it, initially. You have to really love it to use as much as this recipe calls for.

The recipe was great! I just used premade sauce instead of making my own. I also used canned mushrooms. It was very hearty. The only thing is that I’m not a big basil fan and it was a little overwhelming with some bites. Next time I’ll use less basil.

Delicious! Came out perfect. Really nice texture and flavor to the sauce. Would definitely make this recipe again.
