Creamy Smoked Salmon Pasta

A tasty side dish or snack can be made from this armadillo recipe. My mother gave me the recipe.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  1. 1 (16 ounce) package penne pasta
  2. 6 tablespoons butter
  3. ½ onion, finely chopped
  4. 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  5. 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  6. 2 cups skim milk
  7. ½ cup grated Romano cheese
  8. 1 cup frozen green peas, thawed and drained
  9. ½ cup canned mushrooms, drained
  10. 10 ounces smoked salmon, chopped

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add penne and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 11 minutes; drain.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion in butter until tender, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir flour and garlic powder into onion.
  3. Gradually stir in milk. Heat to just below boiling point, then gradually stir in cheese until sauce is smooth. Stir in peas and mushrooms; cook over low heat until warmed through, about 4 minutes.
  4. Toss in smoked salmon and cook until heated through, about 2 minutes. Serve over pasta.

i loved this recipe but if you let your penne go 11 minutes then you will have mush. That has to be a typo. 7 to 7.5 minutes TOPS when you add pasta to a dish like this.

I really wanted to like this recipe since most of the reviews were positive but I have to say I agree with those that said it needed something – I’m in that camp unfortunately. As my husband said “It’s just okay” and I have to sadly agree.

Yum. Though I did cut back on the butter, only using about 1/3 of the amount, and that was plenty. Will make again when I have more smoked salmon on hand.

This was really, really good! And super easy to make. I didn’t have smoked salmon so I used regular and it was very tasty. I think the cream sauce could benefit from some additional spices, like pepper, red pepper flakes, and more garlic. But overall it was very tasty and an easy dish to clean out the fridge and freezer with. I found myself not measuring the salmon and veggies because a little extra can’t hurt, right?

I made this dish exactly as the recipe dictates. The sauce was very creamy and delicious. I love that Allrecipes allows me to select the numbers of servings I want to make and presto, the quantities readjust. I was actually surprised at how delicious this turned out.

This recipe has become My favorite meals to make, Thank You!

I made it for some friends but subbed heavy cram for the skim milk and used fettuccine noodles. Amazing!!

Great flavor and an easy to make meal, I used fresh pasta so everything cooked in about 8 minutes. I think a bit less flower, the sauce was a bit dry for coating the pasta.
Pamela Richardson
used angel hair pasta, and grated Parmesan in the sauce. ??

Used 2% milk, and a little more cheese. Added pepper for more seasoning. It was delicious!

Still very rich! Sautéed fresh mushrooms and garlic. Hated to dirty another pot so threw peas in with pasta. Used leftover smoked salmon from Costco. Served with crisp green salad.

Very tasty good! I’m glad I picked this recipe for the smoked salmon I had. I used 2% milk, and Parmesan cheese… the peas and mushrooms are a good addition to this dish. I think fresh mushrooms would be even better.

Quite simple, but really delicious. I actually used salmon fillets, and didn’t include them in the sauce, but served the sauce to accompany the fillets. It worked really well, and I actually used cheddar cheese.
Bryan Gordon
Added extra veggies-spinach and peppers. Good but needed some dill or red chili peppers

I made it with fresh, sauteed salmon, as I didn’t have smoked salmon. I used cream, water and a shot of white wine instead of the milk. And I used fresh, sauteed mushrooms. It was delicious!

It was delicious by I did alter the original recipe.instead of skim milk I used heavy whipping cream; instead of penned pasta I used bow tie pasta; and instead of peas I used fresh baby spinach. I added two cloves of garlic, garnished with cracked pepper and scallions
Diane Mason
I was disappointed with the sauce. There’s no reason to thicken this with flour, as the result is a pasty sauce that distracts from the salmon.

Will definately be making again. I did modify a tad bit. I left out the mushrooms and about half the amount of onions since I have picky eaters at home. Guess what, they loved it. I’m sure the original recipe would also be delicious.

I didn’t have frozen peas on hand so I used broccoli. It was quick, easy and delicious. I will make it again!
Kevin Santos
I made this today for a friend of mine who loves pasta and fish. They loved it, but next time I’m going to actually measure everything out and make a less thicker sauce.

I thought it was good. probably wont stick it in the “impress my wife repertoire”. I will add less mushrooms, and maybe half again the sauce. I didn’t do smoked, I baked the salmon at 350ish for 15 minutes then flaked it into the sauce. reheated well. I also used bow tie pasta, because, what’s more classy than that?
