Since I’ve had this recipe, I’ve made thousands of meals from it. I have to bring numerous copies of the recipe with me if I bring it to any event.

Used Cream of Celery instead of Cream of Mushroom. Added sauteed mushrooms and onions. Cheese on top under French Onions good for keeping top crunchy.
No changes to recipe
I made this green bean casserole today and it came out perfectly. The only change I made was adding the second layer of cheese underneath the French fried onions because I wanted the onions to be crispy. I will never use another recipe again, as there is no need to! This was so quick and easy to make and so delicious that it’s going in my “keeper” file.
This has been my families go to recipe for 40 years! The best holiday side dish both for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Traditional recipe is awesome….no need to alter unless you want too.
I tripled the recipe and only used about a cup of cheese inside and omitted adding to the top so the onions wouldn’t get goopy. I added some cracked pepper too. It was a hit and so easy. I may try to test this with fresh green beans, but ultimately, this is a winner and I will most definitely make again!
This was delicious! I just need to double it next time!
Easiest and best Green Bean Casserole ever, according to my family. I do add bacon bits to it though too.
Added bacon, sauteed onion and minced garlic.
We really liked this green bean casserole. So easy to make. We added bacon and mushrooms which gave the casserole a good flavor. I added cooked bacon and mushrooms before baking.
I used smoked gouda cheese and added real bacon bits to give the whole dish a smokey flavor. Turned out great. The only thing I experienced that left me a bit disappointed was the longer it sat in the baking dish after cooling, the more water appeared. As though the cream of mushroom soup just turned to water.
AWESOME! Truly the best green bean casserole ever. Followed the recipe exactly save for sprinkling on the second 1/2 c of cheese and THEN onions (so they’d stay crispy). Everyone went back for seconds. We’re making this again for Christmas, if not sooner!
I add a teaspoon of garlic powder and a 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder to the dish! Perfect every time!
very easy and good! family loves this dish
Based on the comments, I added bacon bits. I mixed the cheese into the mixture so just the onions went on top. I find “traditional” string bean casseroles bland. This one had flavor. My family was used to the “traditional” one and were a little thrown by this recipe, but they ended up loving it. I will make this one again, with the bacon bits.
This was a solid base. I did add sauted mushrooms, shallot and 6 peices of bacon (crumbled). I will make again.
I simply love it and so does my family we will make this Thanksgiving Christmas any holidays that we want to use it for our green bean casserole forever now it is the best hats off to the chef
I have made this for years and years, made again today but added some crispy bacon and put all the cheese in with the beans. Very good!
The family loves this recipe. I don’t put the cheese on top with the onions. The cheese makes the onion topping weird/less crisp. The cheese mixed in the casserole is delish!!
The cheese made it extra good. A great addition to my Easter dinner.
I have made this a few times and it is so good with the cheese and this time I added black olives
I prefer to use low sodium stove top. The fried onions were a little too salty for me. But overall simple and tasty.
