Black-eyed peas made just right to welcome the new year. Serve with bread and hot sauce of the South.

Ingredients

  1. 2 apples, cored and quartered
  2. 3 bananas, broken into chunks
  3. 1 cup dates, pitted
  4. 1 cup chopped walnuts
  5. 1 orange, zested and juiced
  6. lemon, zested and juiced
  7. 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  8. 2 teaspoons white sugar
  9. ⅓ cup dry red wine
  10. 2 tablespoons matzo meal, or as needed

Instructions

  1. Blend apples, bananas, dates, walnuts, orange zest and juice, lemon zest and juice, cinnamon, and sugar in a food processor until chunky. Transfer apple mixture to a bowl and stir in wine. Gradually stir matzo meal into apple mixture, adding enough to soak up the wine; chill in refrigerator.
  2. Substitute peanuts for walnuts if eating kitniyos.
