I thought that this casserole was so much better than the Campbell’s traditional green bean casserole and I will not be making that one any longer. It is also really delicious with any other dinner whenever you want a good side dish.

My family was so mad at me when they tasted this. There are some dishes you just can’t mess with! There shouldn’t be any crunch in the casserole besides the French fried onions on top! & if you’re gonna try to change a classic to “homemade”, at least MAKE homemade cream of mushroom soup WITH MUSHROOMS, & where’s the Worcestershire, where’s all three seasoning?? It wasn’t horrible, it’s just NOT GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE, not close & it shouldn’t be listed as such. Maybe rename it green bean bake?

This is THE BEST green been casserole! I’ve tried several in my effort to avoid the version with canned soup, and this beats them all. And, it is no more difficult or time consuming than the canned soup version! Like others, I did saute the onion in the butter for a few minutes prior to adding flour. Use a small zip top bag to easily crush the crackers for the topping.

No changes needed! Maybe a beer for the chef!

Out of necessity I made a couple changes. As it turned out the changes were an improvement !! (at least to me and the kids) Used an even mix of Mozzarella and Monterey Jack (didn’t have any cheddar), doubled the onion to 1/2 cup and used crushed Ritz crackers instead of the suggested “buttery” crackers

Big hit for Thanksgiving. So good my teenage son who hates everything vegetable ate two helpings and asked me to make it again “like tomorrow”. I skipped the diced onion entirely and used the French Fried ones in its’ place, I mixed them and half the cheese in with the green bean mixture. Doesn’t need the sugar. Definitely try this!

This was fantastic. For someone who doesn’t like the cream of mushroom or crispy onions, this was a perfect replacement. Made it for Thanksgiving and now can’t wait to make it tomorrow for Christmas too. Definitely a new favorite.

I’ve made this recipe so many time for years and is my absolute favorite green bean casserole recipe EVER!!!

I made this two weeks before Thanksgiving as an experiment to compare with the traditional green bean casserole. I thought this sour cream-based recipe was bland and tasteless. I am thankful we did not bring this casserole to our family Thanksgiving gathering…I would have never lived it down. The traditional recipe is much more flavorful and easier to make. The French-style green beans just ruined the taste and texture. The video looks good, but the taste is awful.

Sooooo delicious!!! Followed some reviews on here and everyone asked for the recipe. Used one big bag of frozen beans (steamed for recipe). I’ll use two next time. Also will double the sauce so it sits nicely in my pan.

I took it to a pot luck and everyone loved it. I have added bacon to it.

We have these every year for our Thanksgiving meal and LOVE them! So much better then the old recipe with Cream of mushroom soup and fried onions on top! I highly recommend this recipe!

I really prefer this recipe over the cream of mushroom/fried onion topping casserole. I cut the sauce in half, used 1 can of Italian style green beans, and put half the cheese in the sauce. It easily served my husband and me with some left over.

This is my go to when it comes to bring a dish for thanksgiving. My husband and I almost fight over this dish that explains how good it is lol. I can’t wait to make two of this delicious recipe tomorrow for my family’s thanksgiving.

This has been my go to recipe for about 10 years now!! This week when I make it I am gonna dice up some bacon and cook my onions in the bacon grease instead of butter and use that to m ake my rue too!!!

Why is there sugar in this recipe? It’s a wonderful recipe, and we really enjoyed it. Will make it again. Next time we will double recipe.

I’ve made this every Thanksgiving for YEARS, exactly as written. Love, love, LOVE it.
John Rogers
Loved this, used steamed fresh green beans. Mixed fried onions pieces and cheddar cheese into the beans, doubled sauce. Topped it with extra cheddar cheese, Ritz crackers and more fried green onions.
Holly Mora
This is our official holiday green bean casserole! We love it. I omitted the breadcrumbs on top and mixed in a little extra cheese. Because we love cheese.
Jason Williams
Amazing. This has become a holiday fave amongst family and friends.
Susan Gay
My kids want it no other way!
