Buttermilk Caramel Syrup

It’s the best of both worlds with these French toast waffles! Brioche slices are dipped in a French toast batter made of eggs and then pressed into waffle forms in a heated waffle iron.

Ingredients

  1. 3 cups white sugar
  2. 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  3. 1 cup unsalted butter
  4. 2 tablespoons corn syrup (such as Karo®)
  5. 2 teaspoons baking soda
  6. 4 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, buttermilk, butter, corn syrup, and baking soda together in a large pan over medium heat. It will expand because of the baking soda. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and let simmer for 5 minutes. Take off the heat and stir in vanilla extract. Serve warm.
