Butter Fried Potatoes

  4.6 – 39 reviews

Although it is wonderful, this meal of fried, chopped potatoes is not the healthiest option. If you don’t like onions, you can skip them. I frequently prepare this dish for my family, and the restaurant where I work has switched to this recipe! For a nice touch, mix diced tomatoes with the onion and garlic.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  1. 6 tablespoons butter, divided
  2. 2 large potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  3. ½ onion, diced
  4. 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Melt 4 1/2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook potatoes in butter, stirring occasionally, until golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, melt remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons butter in a small skillet over medium heat; cook and stir onion and garlic in butter until onions are tender, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir onion mixture into potatoes. Cook and stir until potatoes are tender, about 10 more minutes.

My family loved it just the way it was written!

This is the only way I will fry potatoes. I made this with 3 leftover air fried russet potatoes. I followed the recipe and it was delicious.

Yes, this is ridiculously good, but seriously, I will reduce the butter at least a little next time. I’ll also do it in one pan, like others have suggested.

I’ve been making the same thing for years. I par boil my potatoes or use leftovers I also get the onions and garlic with the potatoes and add mushrooms

These were delicious. I used onion powder and garlic powder, that was my only change. I will be making these again and again. Thanks for the recipe.

All I can say is…YUMMY!

This turned out really yummy. I left out the garlic and onion, but tossed the potatoes with ground rosemary, Cayenne pepper and sea salt before adding to the butter. Really good.

Absolutely delicious! I’d never cooked onions&garlic separately. It worked well!

I add a can of evaporated milk at the end, fantastic.

I’m fairly new to cooking (within the last year or so I’ve started being braver with recipes) and always wanted to do more with potatoes. This was soooo easy and such a good way to clear out some spuds that were in my fridge! I used garlic powder, Himalayan salt, and black pepper, then threw in some frozen bell peppers I had chopped and threw in the freezer a while ago, and it turned out perfect! I found covering it between stirring helped the potatoes turn tender (mine were taking forever lol) Topped my bowl with cheese and realized I forgot to take a picture haha! Definitely going to use this recipe more often!

Turned out perfect! I did not add garlic or the onions . I did sprinkle a little Paprika on for color. My family loved them and from now on this is how I am going to fry my potatoes , No such thing as too much butter.

Rather than cook the garlic and onions separate as recommended I put everything together so the flavors could meld. Everyone loved them…especially my husband!

These were awesome! I didn’t add the garlic since I served them with a garlicky dish and didn’t want to overwhelm anyone. I just added the onion with the potatoes right from the beginning.
