Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, diced
- ½ pound bacon
- 1 (28 ounce) can baked beans (such as Bush’s Original®)
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
- 1 cup brown sugar, divided
Instructions
- Preheat an oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- Melt the butter in a skillet over low heat. Cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, 10 to 15 minutes. Meanwhile, place the bacon in a large, deep skillet, and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain the bacon slices on a paper towel-lined plate. Cut bacon into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
- Combine the baked beans, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, and onions in a 2-quart casserole dish. Stir in 2/3 of the cooked bacon and 1/4 of the brown sugar until evenly mixed. Cover the bean mixture with the remaining bacon, and sprinkle with the remaining brown sugar.
- Bake in the preheated oven until hot and bubbly, about 45 minutes.

This a family favorite!
Excellent, simple to make
This turned out so good, and I even used a cheap can of baked beans. We ate this as a meal and my family all went back for seconds.
Doubled the recipe and added a can of butter beans. Didn’t double the brown sugar. Yum
Delicious exactly as written!
Pretty good recipe for baked beans that is easy to make and adjust to taste preference. I followed the recipe as written, but had to make some adjustments, hence the 3 star rating. I discovered that canned baked beans contains brown sugar and tasted pretty sweet as is. So, I cut way back on the brown sugar…stirred in about 1/8 cup and topped the bacon with just a tiny bit more brown sugar. I also suggest watching your bake time. These were not extra runny/soupy at all. I would remove them earlier than 45 minutes to prevent them from drying out (used my cast iron skillet so maybe that’s why I was losing so much liquid, so to speak). This will be a go to and repeat here, but with changes noted above. Thanks for the recipe.
we used hickory brown sugar beans, it was so good it disappeared within minutes, wish i had made more.
I doubled the batch. I put it in my crock pot for Christmas day, then baked at the end without the extra brown sugar (since I read it can be too sweet). It was awesome with ham, and with all the left overs days later!
These beans were AMAZING!!! My whole family enjoyed them, which is a miracle. Another bonus is how eeaasssy they are to make. A win win!!
Huge hit at a family picnic. The only change I made was I doubled the bacon.
Excellent! I drained the baked beans first and then I only used 1/4 c brown sugar in the beans and left the rest of the sugar out of the recipe. It was perfect!
So based on many reviews I doubled the recipe and as I don’t care for too sweet stuff I elected to go with 1/4 brown sugar total even when I doubled the ingredients and I think this turned out perfect. Many compliments at dinner table too. I put it all in a slow cooker for 4 hours on low and will definitely make again.
Delicious! Followed the recipe, but didn’t add the bacon. Bush’s Baked beans are already pretty good as is, but this recipe made it taste even better! Will definitely be referring back to this recipe from now on!
This was too sweet for my taste. A cup of brown sugar in this recipe is at least 1/2 cup too much. I am going to keep looking for another recipe or modify this one next time.
I always follow a recipe exactly as written when I make it for the first time. That being said, this dish was absolutely delicious and everyone enjoyed the dish. The family was asking for more, but I did not make enough. This dish will definitely be in the family meals rotation in the future.
I made this recipe for a cookout and my guests loved it!
I have made this recipe several times for a crowd and it is a hit. I double the recipe but do not double the amount of bacon or brown sugar. By making these adjustments, it is just right for my taste. I would give it five stars if less bacon and brown sugar were called for in the original recipe.
very tasty, a bit sweet for me. next time maybe 1/2 the sugar. but otherwise this is really good.
These baked beans were great. I reduced the amount of brown sugar to 1/4 cup, and that was perfect for us. Served them at a summer cookout party along with grilled hot dogs, potato salad, and watermelon, and it was the perfect side to go along with what we were having. There wasn’t a single bean left after our party. I would definitely make these again and would probably double the recipe because they were popular.
Yummy
Simple and easy, I added a bit of cinnimon to finish it off. Saving the remaining brown sugar and bacon to sprinkle on top made a great presentation.
