I can’t think of another recipe like this hot dog casserole that I remember from 30 years ago when I was a kid. Undoubtedly a delicious, distinctive flavor unlike any other.
Prep Time: | 15 mins |
Cook Time: | 1 hr 10 mins |
Total Time: | 1 hr 25 mins |
Servings: | 6 |
Ingredients
- 1 (12 ounce) package rotini pasta
- ¼ cup butter
- 2 sweet onions, chopped
- 1 (26 ounce) can tomato soup (such as Campbell’s®)
- 1 (16 ounce) package hot dogs (such as Oscar Mayer®), sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 1 (15.25 ounce) can whole kernel corn, undrained
- 4 teaspoons dill pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil; cook rotini at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, about 8 minutes; drain.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; cook and stir onions until translucent, 8 to 10 minutes.
- Transfer onions to a large bowl and mix in pasta, tomato soup, hot dogs, corn with juice, dill pickle relish, and yellow mustard. Pour mixture into a baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven until bubbling and top is lightly browned, about 1 hour.
- When cooking, if you smell pickle relish or mustard the amounts of either should be adjusted. Brown mustard can be substituted for a little different flavor.

Yknow? I had absolutely no idea what this would be like but I had a bunch of leftover hotdogs from the fourth and decided “why not.” I’m a broke college student so I didn’t use butter or onions and I only had one can of tomato soup so I used a can of tomato bisque. Simple, fast, edible. I don’t think I’d make this on my own, but the next time I have a bunch of extra hotdogs this will be my go to.
I came across this recipe because I had all the items available and it was simple. If your on a tight budget this will work but over all the taste just wasn’t to my liking. Reminded me of spaghettiO’s with hotdogs.
I just made this, after looking for an alternative to the hot dog and baked beans casserole. We liked it & will make it again. Thank you to the cook who said it was a bit dry. I added 1/2 can of diced tomatoes & was glad I did. Also baked it covered for 20 minutes, then uncovered for 20 minutes. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
This is Amazing!! Cooked in my Nuwave oven and cut the cook time in half and still turned out awesome!
It has an excellent flavour. I made as instructed except used half or 2/3 the relish and mustard. I’d use a little less noodles or a little more sauce next time as it seemed a bit dry. But I’ll make it again.
My husband hated it and I threw away the second batch I made to freeze. It had a strange flavor.
OMG so comforting and warm and tasty!! Used one 10 oz can tomato soup and 12 oz chili sauce. 16 oz baked beans, and left out relish. YUM YUM YUM!!!!
Delicious! Husband loved it!
my 15 year old just loved this dish! i used the wacky mac rotini and exchanged mexicorn for the regular. i also added some greek seasoning to onions while cooking and 4 dashes of cholula hot sauce to the soup. definitely will be making this easy dish again for my son and grandkids!
Used Ketchup, because I did not have any Tomato Soup
An old friend used to make this for me. Love it!
I was a little unsure if my family would like this, but it was sooo yummy. Used olive oil instead of butter, but that’s about all I changed. I will definitely make this again.
1 onion, can of Baked beans instead of corn…OMG…awesome!
I’ve made this recipe twice, once with cooking the onions in butter and once without. Without cooking the onions seemed to overpower the rest of the ingredients, also using sweet onions seemed to make a big differene in overall flavor, which I would recommend using. I will DEFINATELY be making this again as its a very unique casserole! Thank you. 🙂
I made this using 1 onion, NOT cooked in the butter beforehand (I chopped an onion and added it directly to the dish before popping it in the oven). So, my dish is made without the butter, and it still came out well. The mustard and pickle relish flavors r noticeable, so if u r not a fan of pickles or mustard, I suppose u could omit either or both. Would make a more rounded meal served with a salad and bread on the side. All in all, not disappointed here. Also, this sort of a recipe or dish would make for a great dish to bring to a potluck.
