Tyrokafteri (Spicy Feta Dip)

  5.0 – 2 reviews  • Appetizers

Similar to tzatziki, this dip, known in Greek as tyrokafteri, is a cheesy, hot spread that is served as an appetizer. You can’t go wrong making it, and it’s quite simple. Toast some bread and enjoy.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 15 mins
Servings: 20
Yield: 2 1/2 cups

Ingredients

  1. 1 (8 ounce) package feta cheese, crumbled well
  2. 3 hot green peppers, stemmed, or more to taste
  3. 1 cup full-fat Greek yogurt
  4. ⅓ cup olive oil
  5. 2 tablespoons sweet red pepper paste (Optional)
  6. 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  7. 1 clove garlic, mashed (Optional)
  8. 1 pinch cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Place feta cheese in a large glass bowl. Place green peppers in a food processor and blend into a paste; transfer to the bowl of feta. Add Greek yogurt, olive oil, red pepper paste, vinegar, garlic, and cayenne pepper to the dip. Stir well.
  2. This spread can be very spicy. First mix in half of the green pepper paste, and adjust amounts to taste.
  3. Select the best quality feta cheese and olive oil that you can find.
  4. Low-fat Greek yogurt may be substituted for the full-fat version.

I do not care for feta but made this for my feta loving husband. He thought it was delicious and gave it 5 stars. He said it would be great on a salad or in a baked potato too. He requested I make this often and seeing how it is so simple, it gets 5 stars from me too!
