This is really good. I went a little easy on the salt and cayenne. I used green chiles instead of jalapenos and added a little cumin. I used the stick blender as suggested by another reviewer, and it worked great. I put the dip in tortilla chip scoops, put shredded cheddar on top and popped them in the oven till the cheese melted. Yum!

I haven’t had this in years and was craving it but at $3.50 a can it really put me off, so off to the internet I went. I made fresh beans from dry and couldn’t find my scale so it would have been nice to have a cup equivalent (1.5, I used an old 15oz tomato sauce can). I didn’t have/find my cayenne so I used dark chili powder, 6 finely diced pickled jalapeno slices because I like it hotter, sweet smoked Hungarian paprika because that’s what I have, and mashed it up by hand until it was creamy. I drained the beans just enough and the vinegar gave it the bite my other home made attempts were missing. Next time I’ll double down again on the peppers, overall it’s just what I was looking for!

I adjusted the salt and I had to leave out the peppers. Husband loved it, just as good as bought bean dip!!

EZ recipe and tastes great! I reserved the liquid from the beans and added a little to the mixture in the food processor to get a smoother dip. I will make this dip on a regular basis. Good stuff!

Not the same as store.you need mild chopped green chilies THEN its the same

This “Pinto Bean Dip” was quite good. I made it with fresh garlic and fresh jalapenos,. I agree with other reviewers that the amount of salt would have been too much had I used the full amount. I will add cumin next time. Thank you PRESIDENTJIM for sharing your recipe.

I wasn’t too sure about the vinegar but ended up working great. I did have to add more beans though. I ended up basically tripling the recipe except for the vinegar. 🙂
Danielle Riley
loved it cured my craving for the canned one without all the junk

I used a stick blender and this came together quickly! Better the next day. I also used fresh onion and more jalapeños to our taste.

Good flavor, but super dry. I think I’ll add cheese next time and melt for a creamier experience

This was very easy & good. I did sub lime juice for the vinegar & smoked chipotle for the jalapeno peppers & omitted the cayenne. Came out delish. Good-by to canned bean dip!!

I followed the recipe exactly the first time I made it. The following times I added a bit of olive oil to give the dip more creaminess for easier dipping. I make this now instead of buying premade dip.

We tried this recipe but used refried pinto beans turned out more smooth and less lumps.

Yum! Next time I’ll double the recipe. Started with the original recipe, except using taco seasoning instead of the individual spices since so many reviewers complained about the salt and added cumin. Wanted it spicier and creamier, so added 1 tablespoon low fat cream cheese and more jalapeños and a little jalapeño juice. Smooth, spicy, and tasty.

it was a little too vinegary for me. next time I make it I will substitute the vinegar with 1/2 distilled water and the other 1/2 the brine from the jalapeno jar.

So easy to make and I really liked it. Blended it long enough to give it a nice, light whipped consistency. My beans were low sodium so I did need the salt. Used just 2 of the jalapeno rings, but all of the vinegar (I used rice vinegar, which I like for it’s mild flavor). Added cumin, adjusted all spices to taste. Thank you.

This was my first time to make bean dip. My friends who are bean dip lovers said this was fantastic. I reduced the salt based on other reviews. Great recipe.

This was good. I don’t like spicy foods, so I left out the hot peppers. Even my husband liked it. Next time, though, I will halve the vinegar.

After tasting, I increased the amounts of all of the spices quite a bit, and threw in some cumin.

Very good! I didn’t have onion powder so I used dried onions and since I made this for my littles I completely nixed the hot peppers. There’s still a mild kick with the paprika and cayenne, so it was perfect! I’m very pleased with this recipe and will for sure be making it again! Thanks

It was good, just too salty. I used half the salt and jalapeño juice instead of vinegar and it was great! I garnished it with fresh cilantro and paprika.
