Fresh Green Beans with Heaven Sauce

Even green bean haters will beg for more of this fantastic side dish. a product of my own experimentation. It is now perfect.

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  2. 2 tablespoons butter
  3. ½ cup minced onion
  4. 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  5. 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  6. ¼ cup soy sauce
  7. 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  8. 1 teaspoon sriracha hot sauce
  9. ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  10. salt and ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place a steamer insert into a saucepan and fill with water to just below the bottom of the steamer. Bring water to a boil. Add green beans, cover, and steam until tender, 2 to 6 minutes.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; cook and stir onion and garlic for 2 minutes. Add sesame seeds; cook and stir until sesame seeds are golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Mix soy sauce, mayonnaise, sriracha hot sauce, and allspice into onion mixture. Add green beans and toss to coat; season with salt and pepper.
  4. You can alternately plate the steamed green beans and pour sauce over the top.

I liked the sauce as did my husband. Due to allergy I omitted garlic and onion. I wanted make this a whole meal. I added some cut up leftover chicken in with the green beans and sauce. Served over rice I think I’d add extra seasonings next time to increase flavor. Great base recipe We ate the whole thing.

I love this recipe on many vegetables but my favorite is on green beans. The only thing I change is I use tamari instead of soy because it has less salt. I just find soy REALLY salty, so tamari is perfect for me.

These green beans are phenomenal!! My husband and I can easily eat almost a pound of fresh green beans with this recipe. We like them on the firm/crisp side so I only steam them about 4 minutes. I use the sriracha mayonnaise condiment and save one small step. These green beans and a package of frozen Trader Joe’s pork dumplings and you’ve got a nice little meal.

I always find green beans sort of boring; but this recipe was great! I didn’t have sesame seeds, so I used slivered almonds instead. The sauce was a tad spicy and it coated the beans very well. This is a keeper. I put sesame seeds on my shopping list. I think they’d complement it well.

I used frozen green beans, and omitted the sesame seeds, but otherwise made as directed. It was delicious! I will say, without the sesame seeds to toast, the onion and garlic do not need that additional cook time in the butter that was meant for toasting the sesame seeds. My first batch burned after being in the butter about 4 minutes total, so I tried again and only left it in about 2 1/2 minutes before removing from the burner.

Really great beans that I liked a lot. Only Charlie and Jeff ate them but we didn’t have enough. Next time I will make the full pound. I used frozen beans and didn’t even steam them. I just stir fried them in the sauce pan.

Stir fried green beans 3-5 mins, then added garlic, green onion, chili-garlic paste, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, water and chili flakes. Cooked until thick.

The salt was overpowering for both myself and my wife. I did use light soy sauce but if I try this again I would consider using Tamari instead of soy sauce. Have to experiment a bit..

I made the Allrecipes magazine version of this recipe which called for low-sodium soy sauce. I’m glad I did because it was still plenty salty. My son and I thought a few dashes of sesame oil brought out the sesame taste nicely. Everyone enjoyed it!

I didn’t have any sriracha sauce so I used Cholula Hot sauce. I LOVE fresh green beans and was looking for something different besides a little butter, salt and parmesan. This is top notch! I finally bought a bottle of sriracha just for this recipe I can hardly wait to try it again.

I made these for Thanksgiving as I loathe green bean casserole. It was definitely a hit, with many going back for seconds. I didn’t have low sodium soy sauce so used regular. It was a bit salty, but not a deal breaker. Will definitely make again.
