Yield: 2 loaves

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  2. 2 cups whole wheat flour
  3. 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. ⅓ cup honey
  6. ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  7. 5 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add honey, and stir well. Mix in whole wheat flour, salt, and vegetable oil. Work all-purpose flour in gradually. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead for at least 10 to 15 minutes. When dough is smooth and elastic, place it in a well oiled bowl. Turn it several times in the bowl to coat the surface of the dough, and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 45 minutes.
  2. Punch down the dough. Shape into two loaves, and place into two well greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise until dough is 1 to 1 1/2 inches above pans.
  3. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 25 to 30 minutes.

The bread loaves came out so light and fluffy! Very delicious and saves me time. I put cinnamon sugar inside one loaf and use that for French toast! 10/10

Very easy, especially with my mixer. I did an egg wash and sprayed water into the oven while it was cooking. Crispy crust and a tasty bread-truly a flavor sensation!

I decided to try this and am really happy I did! My husband and I love it. I did follow some of the suggestions to increase the amount of honey. I also used a bit more whole wheat and used olive oil but other than that, followed the directions. I am pretty sure I didn’t use the full amount of flour. I was going by feel and stopped when it seemed right to me. I did butter the tops right after coming out of the oven too. This is a keeper.

I ran out of vegitable oil, so I substituted olive oil. It turned out so well my family only wants me to use this recipe from now on. The bread came out so yummy and fluffy I agree with them.

Definitely needs more water and more salt but overall not too bad. Would make again with modifications.

Added some flax meal…. Baking now, rose well but a little slower due to more heavy grains… smells wonderful!

DELICIOUS WITH ALTERATIONS! used an 1/2 of wheat flour in place of the white flour and omitted 1/2 cup of white flour and it was still very dry dough so had to add couple tsp of water. I changed amounts of honey to 1/2 cup, added an extra 1/2 tsp of salt. I also added a packet of maple oatmeal and another 1/2 cup of oatmeal. It’s very moist and next time, I think I’ll add a bit more honey since I like my bread on the sweet side.

We enjoyed it!

I like the simplicity of this recipe. Albeit, my KA was not happy and had to stop and take over hand kneading. LOL. I need the exercise. Rose perfectly, cooked perfectly. Taste is much like you’d expect from wheat bread. This is a repeat after I find some nice loaf pans.

This is the best honey whole wheat bread. Super moist and never dry. Yas that’s what I need in a bread. You know what I mean you do know what I mean, right?

Great, simple recipe. I did flip the flour amounts (5 cups whole wheat & 2 cup white bread flour) plus increased the honey to 1/2 cup and added two eggs. By far the best wheat bread I’ve made. I also added a tablespoon of wheat gluten for each cup of the whole wheat flour. Really great loaf size, and great taste. I can’t wait to make it again.

I found this to be a little dry. The overall flavor was good though.

This was so easy and it made the best tasting bread! Nice crumb, too! Like others, I swapped an additional cup of whole wheat flour for white flour. I also increased honey to 1/2 cup. The whole wheat takes longer to rise. I had to place it in a small room with a space heater to get it to rise faster. That worked perfectly!

For my first try I decided to make this recipe exactly as written. It was very dense, not like soft sandwich bread at all. I suspect because the flour/liquid ratio is not right. The flavor was ok so we are using it to make toast! I decided to make another batch (with adjustments) and it was 100% better! I reduced the flour to a total of 5 cups (3 c wheat, 2 cups bread flour), replaced the oil with 5 tbs of melted butter, doubled the honey to 2/3 c, increased the water to 2 1/3 cups and reduced the Active Yeast to 2 tsp. I believe this is a near perfect loaf of bread! It’s so soft and delicious. Now we will see how it freezes!

Very good recipe, I’ll be making this regularly. This would also make outstanding whole wheat rolls if you were so inclined
