Ingredients

  1. 3 parts whisky
  2. 1/4 part maple syrup
  3. Splash sweet vermouth
  4. Splash lime juice
  5. Dash bitters
  6. Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a pitcher filled with ice. Stir and strain into ice filled glasses.

I loved this cocktail! Great riff on the classic whiskey sour – you can really taste the maple and lime, and the touch of bitters keeps it from being too sweet.

“Parts” are normal bartending measurements. Depends upon how much you want to wind up with. For one person, a “part” might be a jigger (1 1/2 oz, but for a party, where you want a pitcherful, a “part” might be two cups – then a 1/4 part would be a half cup. Easy!

A part is what you make it. Just an equal measure. So 1/4 part is exactly that, a quarter of what you defined as a part.

A dash is generally a few drops of something, bitters comes in a bottle that is easy to measure this.

A splash is more than a dash, but generally less than 1/2 ounce. Something like 1/4 ounce is a good estimate.

And to the review that just gave this drink one star because it isn’t straight whiskey, well that’s pretty pointless as most people wouldn’t consider straight whiskey a cocktail or anything that requires a recipe for that matter.

Honestly, I was expecting this to taste like a whiskey sour, but it is really nice. You can definitely taste the maple flavour. I used Laird’s AppleJack, rather than the bourbon Sandra showed on air, which may have made a slight difference, but this one is definitely a keeper!

What a delicious beverage! Perfect in cold weather for warming up. The maple taste was really nice with the whiskey.

The other reviewer has clearly never used a cocktail recipe before, as “part” is ubiquitous in all of mixology. It is simply a ratio.

This is by far the most confusing drink recipe, ever! What is a part? What the heck is a 1/4 part? A dash of this and a splash of that? A little more precision, please… I searched the internet for archaic cooking terms and even then there were differing measurements. I was looking for something different to serve my guests, but this was not well received. RC Forman, Florida

Come on! Total waste of wiskey, if your gonna be a sissy drink a Shirley Temple!
Chose a burbon, like Wild Turkey’s Russel’s Reserve or an Elija, and skip all the trashy accrutments. You Know ,Sandy, “keep it simple”,go straight, go all the way AIRBORNE!
