So easy to make and very favorable. 1st time ever making this. My boyfriend loved them

We deep fried ours in several inches of oil after catfish and it was excellent! I put just a tiny bit of sugar on them before I started the dredging process to take any hint of bitterness out. I also cut mine a bit thinner, like a quarter inch.

This recipe is fantastic! The breading and cornmeal mixture make a crunchy and tasty treat. I plan on freezing some so I have this year round.

1/2 inch tomato slices with batter? Not even close, but I reduced the salt, cut the tomatoes much thinner, added my garden herbs, made a yogurt sauce and it was yummy!

Loved it!!! Thank you.

From UK so haven’t had them before and I wasn’t sure what they were supposed to taste like. The coating turned out super crispy but I found it very salty so would definitely reduce that. Overall they tasted OK, I’m not sure if they are supposed to be tangier but I tried 2 different types of tomato and neither were very flavourful. I think I would probably add some herbs and spices next time.

We had a very bountiful garden this year, so we decided that fried green tomatoes sounded great. I didn’t change a thing in the recipe, and someone who has never tried them, loved them. I battered extra to put in the freezer. I use allrecipes for all of my cooking! I also made the 1000 island and mayo recipe for our sauce, it was a huge hit!

I loved this recipes, the only ingredient I didn’t add was bread crumbs, as I feel they weren’t really needed. They came out so delicious!!
Jason Long
It’s very tasty, but not as good as grandmas.

I substituted panko bread crumbs for cornmeal and breadcrumbs my family loved it. I made dipping sauce from thousand island dressing and Hellmans yum

Absolutely amazing!! I have made these several times and everyone loves them!! I wonder though, would this be a god batter and such for fried okra? Definitely cut the tomatoes 1/4” thick, it works best. Sprinkle with salt after also, so dang good.

Pretty good recipe

I have never made these before since it is not something we eat in the UK however I saw them on a friend’s FB site and thought I’d give them a go, had most of the ingredients apart from buttermilk so did without seasoned the tomatoes with Old Bay and them just followed the recipe fried them in a combination of corn oil and a little garlic oil, result totally delicious. Since there is so little sun at the moment it looks like I’ll have a lot of green tomatoes!!

My first attempt, so easy and delicious. Reading the comments ahead of time I did use bacon grease and a few dashes of Ole Bay. Absolutely will make again.
Michelle Lamb
Excellent! I added Cajun seasoning to the flour and fried in bacon fat.

These were SO DELICIOUS!!! I made them exactly as the recipe said and they turned out perfectly. So crispy and flavorful. I pretty much ate them as is. I didn’t think they needed a dip, but I did try them with a bit of Freddy’s fry sauce and then, later, some ketchup. But I’m telling you, fresh and hot is the way to go. You don’t need anything else.

I say YES to a sprinkle of sugar. I cooked some both ways and I preferred the ones that I had sprinkled. Mine came out quite dark compared to your video, but were still delicious! (It looked like you used a lot more than 1/2 cup milk in the eggs. I used less than 1/2 cup. ) I’m growing my own tomatoes again so I have plenty to experiment with. I grew 93 lbs of tomatoes in my tiny suburban back yard last year!
Vicki Rodriguez
Followed recipe exactly. They looked great but they were very, very bland. 1/2″ is too thick in my opinion.
William Gordon
This was a delicious, easy recipe. My garden was loaded with tomatoes and this recipe was perfect. Crispy, crunchy on outside and soft and delicious on the inside. Will definitely make them again.

This is my go-to recipe in early summer and late spring when the tomato plants seem to shed a few green tomatoes now and then. I suppose it’s because the plants know they can’t support that many or… Well, who knows. Lol. But this is also when the patty pan squash is ripe so we use the same batter on thin slices of patty pan squash and green tomatoes. It’s a wonderful appetizer for a big family gathering to harvest the cucumbers for pickling!
