  8. 1 jalapeno pepper, minced
  9. 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  10. 1 ½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

  13. 2 teaspoons paprika
  14. 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  15. 1 ¼ pounds ground lean turkey
  16. 1 pound lean ground pork
  17. 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chile peppers (such as RO*TEL®)

  19. 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green peppers and onions

Instructions

  1. Coat a large saucepan with cooking spray and cook 1 chopped sweet onion over medium heat until tender, about 5 minutes. Add chili starter, oregano, and chicken broth; increase heat to medium-high and simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Coat a large stock pot with cooking spay and cook remaining 1/2 chopped sweet onion, green bell pepper, and jalapeno pepper over medium heat until tender, 5 to 8 minutes. Mix in ground turkey and pork; cook and stir until meat is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink, about 10 more minutes. Drain and discard any excess grease.
  3. Stir diced tomatoes with green chiles, fire-roasted tomatoes, and diced tomatoes with green peppers and onions into chili; simmer for about 3 hours.

Everyone who tried it thinks this should be in a restaurant. Only thing I did different is I didn’t have the chili magic so I used a can of black bean, chili pinto beans, and some extra chili powder and hot sauce. I also added a bit more turkey to offset the extra beans and bumped up the spices a little to compensate. Turned out amazing!

Turkey & Pork Chili Haiku: “Just finished this meal, had to review right away. No less than 5 stars!” I made this chili w/ only 1 lb. ground turkey (just dropped the 28 oz. can tomatoes — on that note, why did that other review say “nice bean-less chili alternative” when Chili Magic has beans in it?) I kept all the seasoning/spices and directions the same, and I know that Chili Magic really DOES make chili magical, but I like to think that Nenadd’s recipe also had a bit of magic of its own, b/c our bowls disappeared! I ate mine w/ cilantro, cheese, fritos, and Sriracha, but even a “virginal” bite was straight-up YUM. Next time I’ll be making it w/ all the ingredients as originally written and if there are leftovers, cool, I’ll either gobble them up, or freeze em.

Definitely enjoyed this. Served one night with cornbread and the next to make chili dogs. Nice bean less chili alternative.
