Tilapia Scampi

  4.3 – 247 reviews  • Tilapia

One of the simplest dinners we make can be served as a side dish or a single course. My three favorite things are all in there.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 45 mins
Total Time: 55 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 fillets

Ingredients

  1. ¾ cup butter
  2. 1 ½ teaspoons lemon juice
  3. 8 cloves garlic, halved
  4. 4 (6 ounce) tilapia fillets, rinsed and patted dry
  5. 1 tablespoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C); prepare a baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Combine the butter, lemon juice, and garlic in a microwave-safe bowl; heat in microwave in 10-second increments until the butter is completely melted and the garlic has softened, stirring between each session, about 1 minute total.
  3. Arrange the tilapia in the bottom of the prepared baking dish; pour the butter mixture over the fillets assuring they are all evenly covered. Sprinkle the parsley over the tilapia.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven, turning the fillets every 10 minutes, until the fish flakes easily with a fork, about 40 minutes total.

Concept is fine. I’m not sure why you’d do this in the oven instead of a non-stick skillet though. It can be prepared in less than 15 minutes!

7/26 Easy to make, everyone loved it. served with rice and carrots.

I served this to four fast-food-loving teenagers and they told me it was fantastic and that I should make it again. If that isn’t high praise, I don’t know what is! It was a bit rich (buttery) compared to my usual recipes, but it was certainly delicious.

I had 3 extra people (fed 6) show up last minute, So, I doubled recipe and took extra fish from freezer. Still partially frozen when placed in oven. Butter mixture got a little watery and bake time increased about 7 minutes. However, fish was a big hit. Ate with asparagus, green beans, and rice.

Four stars as it is a simple and good recipe for flavor. I wondered on the bake time and went with 350 for 20 min or so as other reviewers have mentioned. I’ll use the ingredients again. This went really well with baked summer squash and golden potatoes.

I used olive oil to coat the bottom of the pan, and cooked the tilapia until it was 140 degrees F, which only took 20 min. Flaky fish, yummy buttery sauce made right in the pan. Very easy and light!

It was delicious…. Thank you.

family loved it. Didn’t have tilapia on sale so used cod instead

I substituted dill weed for the parsley as I like dill paired with fish. I also added about 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper to the butter and garlic sauce for a little extra flavor. A huge hit with the family, and that is saying something as they are not big fish fans. They specifically ask for this dish, though.

I really like Scampi a lot, but this recipe just didn’t do it for us. I made the recipe exactly as written and my wife and I both agreed it just didn’t have much flavor. Having said that, I must confess that I didn’t have any fresh garlic, so I used the chopped garlic that comes in a jar. It was a new jar, so it was as fresh as it comes. Not sure if that makes a difference or not?

We loved it! It was so easy to make, especially during the week. Simple ingredients and lots of garlic! I made it with pasta, which even my eleven year loved. If people are saying that the sauce is too much….then don’t use it all! The fish was perfect! Thanks for the recipe…we will be using it again.

We made this and served it with stir fried cauliflower rice.We did omit the butter.? total baking time for the tilapia was 17 minutes due to the difference in thickness. This recipe was simply delicious!

I love this recipe! I gave it 4 stars only because I feel like the amount of butter was a bit much and I cooked the dish for 25 to 30 minutes instead. I melted 1/2 c. butter for 5 filets, added the garlic, lemon juice, capers, and about 1/2 tbs Italian Seasoning together all in a small sauce pan. I put the filets on a cookie sheet lined with foil and topped with the butter. I also didn’t flip the filets because when you open the oven, the temp immediately drops. It cooked perfectly.

I don’t eat fish but my wife and sons love it. So I’ve made a lot of Tilapia recipes, which they liked, but they all said this one is the best! I always salt and pepper both sides of the fish first. Aside from that, I just made it exactly as the recipe instructed and cooked it for 30 minutes.

My boyfriend enjoyed it, but I found it to be bland. And the cooking time is way too much. I halved the cook time, and the fish was still overcooked. I

Very good and easy. Did make a couple minor adjustments. I used half the garlic, and added a splash of white wine.

I made it but I added my own touches. I also added shrimp to the fish and it was a lot better.

Followed the recipe and the whole family ate it up!
