Ingredients

  1. 1 pound Yukon Gold potatoes, diced
  2. Kosher salt
  3. 1/2 cup frozen peas
  4. 1/2 small red onion, very thinly sliced
  5. 3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  6. 1 pound ground turkey
  7. 1/2 cup tikka masala sauce
  8. 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  9. 3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  10. 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  11. 4 sesame hamburger buns, toasted
  12. 1/3 cup mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Preheat the broiler. Line a baking sheet with foil. Put the potatoes in a medium saucepan and cover with cold water by 1 inch; season with salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the potatoes are tender, 10 to 12 minutes, adding the peas in the last 1 minute of cooking. Drain the potatoes and peas; reserve the saucepan.
  2. Meanwhile, toss the red onion, vinegar, 2 tablespoons water and a big pinch of salt in a bowl; set aside. Mix the turkey with 1/4 cup tikka masala sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons cilantro and 1/4 teaspoon cumin. Shape into four 1/4-inch-thick patties. Put on the prepared baking sheet; spread with the remaining 1/4 cup tikka masala sauce. Broil until cooked through, 6 to 8 minutes.
  3. Melt the butter in the reserved saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in the remaining 1/2 teaspoon cumin, then add the potatoes and peas. Cook, stirring, until hot, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the remaining 1/3 cup cilantro; season with salt.
  4. Drain the red onion. Serve the burgers on the buns with the mayonnaise and red onion. Serve with the potatoes and peas.

This is now a family favorite!  It’s quick and easy and oh so flavorful!  I usually reserve a half cup of tikka masala sauce when we have Indian, but I’ve also bought jarred tikka masala sauce.  I usually use Trader Joes brioche buns, but potato buns work nicely too.  Don’t skip the pickled onions.  I usually make the pickled onions from a different recipe only because I like to keep them on hand in my fridge and the recipe provided with the burgers doesn’t make enough liquid to store the onions longer term.

This was so simple to make ! Lighter than red meat which was really nice. I might even try this with ground lamb! Great recipe, I think it would be a perfect surprise meal for dinner guests. It’s very unique!

These were a nice change for a turkey burger and good! I used 2 lbs ground turkey and made about 6 generous size burgers.  I used TJ’s Tikka Masala sauce and their brioche buns. I also use apple cider vinegar when I make pickled onions. I made the potatoes and peas as shown. Really good, and didn’t miss the meat burger at all!

I was surprised how moist and flavorful these burgers were. They held together nicely without any added binders or eggs. Baking them in the oven was quick and easy with little clean up. I did not pickle the onions, but I did top my burger with pickles and onions!  I did not make the potatoes either…loved the burger, will definitely be making it again soon! Thank you Food Network!♥️♥️♥️
