The Captain’s Cannonball

  4.4 – 4 reviews  • Whiskey Drinks Recipes

Recently, I’ve developed a passion for mixology and trying out unusual alcohol flavors.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 5 mins
Servings: 1
Yield: 1 drink

Ingredients

  1. 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger cinnamon whiskey (such as Fireball®)
  2. ½ fluid ounce spiced rum (such as Captain Morgan’s®)
  3. 4 fluid ounces cola-flavored carbonated beverage, or as needed

Instructions

  1. Pour whiskey and rum into a high ball glass; stir well. Top drink with cola.
  2. You can substitute diet soda if desired.
  3. For a richer taste, make a Captain’s Volcano. Substitute Captain Morgan’s black rum. The molasses (instead of pressed sugar cane) adds a flavor kick.
  4. For a smooth, rich taste for a sophisticated palate, make a Captain’s Tempest. Substitute Red Stag cinnamon bourbon and Captain Morgan’s black rum. Add to a shaker and shake thoroughly, then pour into a highball glass. It’s also good over ice.

The Cannonball is good, but the Volcano is amazing. I made it 1/2 oz Fireball, 1 oz Captain Morgan Black, 4-1/2 oz Coke. Gotta get some better quality cinnamon whiskey to make the Tempest.

I’m a big cinnamon fan. I’m also a Captain Morgan fan. Never thought to put the two together. It makes sense though, since they are both “spicy-sweet” . My only complaint is the cinnamon is a bit strong in the original recipe and I liked it much better with about equal parts cinnamon whisky to rum. This really works!

I substituted the whiskey with cinnamon schnapps, and used diet rite cola. Tasty!

I found myself pleasantly surprised cinnamon, spice, and cola worked, but they did! I had all of the ingredients on hand so I decided to add a “face” to this recipe. I used Coke Zero (R) and Bacardi Spiced Rum. While it won’t be a “go to”, I’d definitely drink it again should the occasion arise… CHEERS!
