Reviews
The recipe does not say what type of smoked salmon should be used. After reading the reviews it seems that both the hot smoked salmon was used by some and the lox variety was used by others both producing excellent results. I use the lox variety and found the recipe worked beautifully and was delicious.
This is a great recipe for an appetizer spread on pita bread or a nice breakfast spread for bagels. Very easy to prepare and a big hit! Would highly recommend it.
I, too, cut the amount of capers by about half. I also omitted the cream just rolled this up into a cheeseball. This was very popular at the gathering I took it to. I could see substituting some finely chopped red onion for the spring onions. And it would be great spread on bagels or mini bagels for a brunch.
Had you use dried dill, but was still yummy, and our guests loved it.
Great recipe! So simple, yet so delicious!
Made no changes but I had no fresh dill so I omitted it. We enjoyed it.
The recipe turned out great, and I was able to use salmon that I had caught and smoked.
This is very flavorful. I didn’t have capers so I chopped up some green olives instead. I think there is too much dill for me so next time I’m going light on that. I will make this again.
I have been using this recipe for over 10 years…It is one of best most requested dishes even to bring to other people’s parties.
I was looking for an easy appetizer for Christmas Eve “feast of the 7 fishes” and decided upon smoked salmon spread with crackers and crudités. It was my first time making smoked salmon spread, and I picked this one just because it looked good and doesn’t contain horseradish (as a lot of other recipes do). I don’t care for horseradish. I did use less capers. I also followed the advice of another reviewer, who suggested blending in half the salmon, and folding in the remaining chopped salmon at the end. Otherwise, I followed the recipe fairly closely. I let it sit for a few hours in the fridge before serving. It was a HUGE hit with my family! I will definitely make this one again…great way to stretch pricey smoked salmon. Also, one of the crudités that I served was Belgian endive, using the leaves as little “scoops” for the spread. I highly recommend this…the flavors went together spectacularly. Thanks, Jay, for sharing this recipe!
Delicious. Followed the recipe exactly using blespoon of capers. Husband raved about the flavors dancing together in his mouth. Will definitely save this recipe and make again.
This was was pretty good. Minor changes made: I added some of Chef John’s homemade creme fraiche and a little less heavy whipping cream. This didn’t make much of an impact on taste, however. Also, since I was really hoping for the color in the cover picture, I mixed about 1/4 of the smoked salmon in the food processer with the other ingredients, then chopped the rest and stirred it in. It didn’t add the pretty salmon color I was looking for, but it still tasted good. Would probably make again. I feel like there’s a showstopper addition out there that would up my stars to 5, but I’m not sure what it is.
This is delicious. Very refreshing on a warm day. A keeper for sure. I’m on Keto so I thinned it a bit with cream and piped it onto cucumber slices. Topped with a caper. Received many compliments.
Made it exactly as per the recipe on AllRecipes website. I wouldn’t change a thing. It was great!
I followed the directions but omitted the extra heavy whipping cream (not needed!) and the Worcestershire sauce. Rave reviews from the family!
Very easy to make. Made a big impression on guest at the Super Bowl Party!! Everyone wanted the recipe. I can always count on All Recipes for winning recipes.
I made this with half the cream cheese, which helped the recipe. Also
Yummy, I only used a table spoon of capers, other than that I made per the recipe. Wow, I’ll be taking this dip for the holidays. I am also going to try it with smoked trout, tuna and crab meat.
It was okay. Nothing fantastic.
I made it for a party, it was a big hit! Next time I make it, I might add some more hot sauce to bring on the heat. 🙂
It was absolutely awesome
