The Best Meatloaf

  4.5 – 0 reviews  • Beef Meatloaf Recipes

Green peppers are added to this meatloaf dish for flavor and texture. I’ve been making meatloaf for 30 years, and this recipe is the best I’ve ever attempted. The finicky hubby I have loves it!

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Additional Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 20 mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup soft bread crumbs
  2. ½ cup milk
  3. 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  4. 1 onion, chopped
  5. ½ cup diced green bell pepper
  6. 3 tablespoons steak sauce, (e.g. Heinz 57)
  7. 1 egg, slightly beaten
  8. 1 ¼ teaspoons salt
  9. ground black pepper to taste
  10. ¼ cup steak sauce, or more to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8×4-inch loaf pan. Combine bread crumbs and milk in a small bowl; set aside to soften.
  2. Mix ground beef, onion, bell pepper, steak sauce, egg, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl; add bread crumb mixture and mix with your hands until combined.
  3. Pat the mixture into the prepared loaf pan; brush the top with 1/4 cup steak sauce.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until no longer pink in the center, about 1 hour. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C). Allow to stand for 5 minutes before slicing.
  5. Use about 2 slices of bread, torn into pieces, for the soft bread crumbs.

Great flavors. I had dinner with this and had two days of meatloaf sandwiches for lunch.

I have been using THIS recipe for years already! Perfect every time I knew it would become a regular entree in our house because my picky kid loved it!

Best meatloaf recipe ever! I use Heinz 57 and A1 steak sauce in this. I have one slice and my son finishes the loaf!

We loved this with one change is all. I used BBQ sauce instead of steak sauce since it was what we had in the fridge. Sooooo delish and we will def be making it again.

To make this keto friendly substitute heavy cream for milk and pork panko for bread crumbs. Still comes out really good. Great recipe.

The flavor was good but the texture was very odd and unpleasant. I’m not sure why…

This was delicious! Easy enough for my 6 year old son to make with me. This might be my new go-to meatloaf recipe!

the finished product was too mushy and didn’t hold together. Way too much liquid in the recipe

Very simple recipe that my 12 year old wanted to surprise his mother with for dinner. He made it all by himself and turned out great

Oh my goodness! I made this a few months ago and today my husband asked for it! He has never been a meatloaf eater, EVER!

My family loved this meatloaf recipe. Unfortunately, it was gone before I had the chance to take a picture. I’ll make it again next week and take the picture then.

I made it exactly to the recipe and it was really good. My wife liked it, only the second meatloaf she has ever liked. I think I am going to add some fresh herbs next time.

DELICIOUS. I am very picky about my meatloaf. This recipe is easy and moist. I always add Knorr’s onion soup mix instead of salt and pepper. Love the steak sauce too.

Love it but if making with 2 lbs needs to add 20-30 minutes to completely cook

Made it last night, was great but a tad salty. I’m going to cut back on salt next time

Used this recipe to make meatloaf tonight. It came out great! The recipe is so easy to follow and not many ingredients are needed, anyone can make this! Hubby loved it so that’s the most important part!!

I like this recipe but one onion is a bit much. It was a bit overpowering. Otherwise, it was a great recipe. I ended up glazing the top with bbq sauce the last 20 minutes.

Spot on. Fantastic recipe! No changes needed.

Great and easy recipe. I used Italian bread crumbs? and it worked fine. I also added ricotta cheese that I had left over from another recipe and I gave gave it a nice flavor.
