I’m a really good cook. I know how to bake. I love trying new recipes, and I’m willing to get inventive. There are so many things wrong with this recipe. Liquid to cake mix ratio, even saturation of the mix during baking, even the baking temperature is off. At 325 the liquid doesn’t bubble up enough to cook the dry ingredients, and certainly not in 40 minutes. I’m actually surprised that this recipe made it onto the Allrecipes site. I’m wondering how they tweaked it so it didn’t turn out like muck.

Delicious. I did not change a thing!!

I’ll start by saying I made a couple of tweaks to this recipe. I used a 9″x 9″ non-stick baking pan I found at Walmart. No spray needed. Poured in one can cherry filling, one can of crushed pineapple, one Dolly Parton Coconut flavored cake mix (also found at Walmart Market). I did not measure my coconut flakes but generously added what looked like a good amount to me. Then I sprinkled a couple of handfuls of slivered almonds on that and placed one stick of butter in the microwave to melt. Drizzled the melted butter on top of this recipe and the pan was filled to nearly the brim. I was concerned it might spill over while baking but it didn’t at all. I Cooked it for exactly 40 minutes until it was slightly browned and placed it on a cooling rack for one hour. So pretty! It was still warm when I sliced into it after dinner. I served it up to my husband with a heaping scoop of Carb Smart Vanilla ice cream. This recipe was so sloppi-liciously killer-good when warm and had a bit of crunch to it as well which I love. I will make this one again and again. Great recipe LTEDFORD, my hubby and I thank you for sharing it!

this pie was delicious. I used a gluten-free yellow cake mix instead of the regular cake mix. Next time I will have apple pie filling. I am allergic to wheat.

This was the most delicious recipe ever! My husband gave it 10 stars. I added Peaches instead of pineapple and no Pecons

Recipe was easy. I did not use coconut. Crushed cashews instead. Was a hit in my house.

I only used less coconut and a little bit more pecans. We really loved it

Made this. We followed the recipe exactly Even adding additional cake mix as mixes on shelves are 3.25 oz short of what is called for. I would add additional cherry pie filling and pineapple filling as they barely covered the bottom of the baking dish. I would cut back on the coconut as the coconut overwhelmed the other flavors OR don’t use sweetened coconut as there is enough sweetness in the pie filling and pineapple. Next, being a pecan lover, I would add an additional 1/2 cup of pecans.

I would like to know who rated it so high so I would never listen to their view in the future. Yes I threw most of it out. It was way too sweet and I did not add all the coconut that it called for which would have made it sweeter.

This is so quick and easy! It was a recipe in my book for a hotel and restaurant management class that I took in college as a fun elective. This was 50 years ago! While Texas may lay claim to it, now, I still have that recipe spiral from college, lol. There are so many variations. You can use a spice cake with peach or apple pie filling, strawberry cake mix with strawberry pie filling, etc. White cake mixes work well with this, as well. Don’t be afraid to try all different cake mixes and pie fillings, and you can add all kinds of toppings, fillings, etc! It is almost impossible to have a bad turnout, lol. it is so quick and simple, and I have been making different versions of this for fifty years. My family still requests it when they visit! It’s the only reason I have boxed cake mixes in my pantry, as cakes are easy to bake from scratch.

Easy and tasty. You can see it’s almost gone. It keeps well under a cloth on the counter. I had a slightly smaller dish, so reduced the ingredient amounts. Even so, baked it for an extra 25 mins. Lined the dish with Filo dough to give it a solid bottom. Used only 1 smaller can of my fave raspberry filling, not a big can of cherry filling. I used 2/3 a 15.6oz package of cake mix. Also added mini chocolate chips, however I would not necessarily recommend that because it clashes a little with the fruit. I used vegan butter and it worked great. Also sprinkled brown sugar on top to candy the pecans, my favorite. The pineapple cake mush baked great, and the toasted coconut gave it more excellent texture. If I make this again, I might layer filo dough between the flavors and/or split the cake-pineapple mixture a little between each layer to give it a more attractive cross-section.

It’s nothing more than dump cake with nuts and coconut added…

I make this all the time but know it as dump cake. I omit the coconut as my family doesn’t like it. I put the pecans in with the fruit, it softens them a bit but still has texture. Any yellow or white cake mix works. I’ve also made with apple pie filling. Yummy every time!

This is a Dump Cake & has nothing to do with Texas.

For an even fancier presentation try making it in a springform pan and putting it in a glass triffle bowl the same size as the springform pan
