I remember my mom making this when I was growing up. She made it with tots and cheese on top as another reviewer suggested; however I got in a hurry and ended up making exactly as written. Deliciously either way!

Love the recipe as-is, but the second time I made it I added some sausage with the ground beef and then topped each serving with homemade green chili with pork. Turned out fantastic.

It was good, put some granulated garlic in the hamburger meat and a little pepper.

I made it as published and the grandkids loved it and want it the next time they come. I used fine shredded cheese and baked it in a convection oven so the cheese was a little crisp and that put it over the top.

Came togather well, but just wasn’t a hit. I enjoyed, but my picky eaters weren’t up for seconds.

I wanted a more Shepard’s Pie flavor, so I changed the following (although sometimes I make the recipe as is- it’s good, too!) *Swapped milk for beef broth *Added a can of corn *1 Tablespoon of Worcestershire *1 Tablespoon Ketchup Baked at 375 degrees for 45 minutes

My kids liked it, next time i will add some bacon to give it some flavor and possibly add garlic. Also, spreading some cheese on top of beef under the tater tots prior to baking would improve this dish

Made this for dinner this evening. Read several reviewers who suggested a few changes, and I incorporated some of those. Added green pepper and fresh mushrooms to the onion in the ground beef. Placed french style green beans (I had them on hand) at the bottom of the baking dish, then ground beef/veggie mixture and poured the soup/milk over the top. Cheese next, then tater tots. YUMMY!

Terrible. Ground beef and mushy tater tots. Will not make this again.

I’ve made this quite a few times. It is a bit bland if you do it as stated, but this recipe is so great as a starter and so unforgiving. We use only ground venison, I cook it with diced onions. Season to our taste, lots of garlic powder added, salt and pepper. Cream of mushroom soup with a little bit of milk. Green beans layered on bottom. Add some fresh sliced mushrooms or canned button mushrooms with the meat mix. Then layer of cheddar or mozarella, then the tater tots on top.

This was an excellent recipe. I used the rounds instead of tots (same thing, different shape). I also put french fried onions on top. Will definitely make again. Sorry forgot to take photo

A friend of mine, who grew up on the Pine Ridge reservation. Made a very similar version of this dish for me last month. Because I am somewhat of a food snob. I was very reluctant to want to make it. As it turned out, however, both my mom and I absolutely loved it. I agree with everything Mare had to say. And made it my own by adding 4 cups of frozen peas and carrots, 1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes and topped the tater tots with 8 ounces of shredded cheddar jack cheese.

Seems like it would indeed be bland as written, but I added about a teaspoon of minced garlic to the meat and sliced button mushrooms to the mushroom soup, and it was great!

My mom has been making this for 20 years now. We brown the beef and onion and spices put that Into a dish put cream of mushroom soup evenly over it then put tater tots over that put cheese on top and then put French fried onions on top once you have 5 mins left in the oven

I used 99% ground turkey, omitted the cheddar cheese, added lots of fresh mushrooms and sprinkled it with pepper instead. Turned out great!

I made this and it was excellent.I did made a few changes …I used Accent and Mrs Dash in place of salt & pepper. I also baked the tater tots separately according to the directions on the bag and then added them over the ground beef and continued to follow the video’s recipe .The next time I make this I may add corn as well.An absolute 5 stars!!
