Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon honey
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- ¼ cup sliced green onions
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 12 ounces cooked shrimp, tails removed
Instructions
- Stir together water, ketchup, soy sauce, cornstarch, honey, crushed red pepper, and ground ginger in a small bowl until combined. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir green onions and garlic in hot oil until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in cooked shrimp; toss to coat with oil. Pour in ketchup mixture. Cook and stir until sauce is bubbly and thickened.

So easy to make without all the exotics. Made a double batch to make sure there was plenty of sauce. I love it spicy but not so much the wife so I dialed the CRP back by half. Served on rice. Will make it again.
This was so quick & easy! I doubled the recipe. My roommate suggested adding some broccoli and water chestnuts, but I will do that next time. I did sprinkle some extra crushed red pepper and made noodles for his & will eat mine with quinoa. It was so good !
My 15 year old loves shrimp ,ketchup, and honey! I left the hot pepper and green onions out (even though I love them). It’s a great option for dinner for the entire family!

My dogs had a great time eating some shrimp tails with their dinner. They loved the finished dish (sauce only), too. My husband wanted to give it a 4 1/2, and he did say he particularly liked having the dish with buttered noodles instead of rice. I tweaked it a little with a dash of sugar right before I put in our bowls. I just needed it to hit my mouth with a taste that seemed missing. I probably should have made that honey. The sauce simmered beautifully and was easy to wash the pan. If the dogs hadn’t been begging to lick the bowl, I think I would have licked it myself.
I did enjoy the flavors in this recipe. The only issue I had with it is that it does produce an abundance of sauce to how much shrimp it produces. You almost have to make some sort of rice or other thing to soak up all the excess. Normally this isn’t an issue, but I’m watching my carb intake and I would’ve liked more of an proportionate ratio.
I would definitely make it again because of the simplicity of it. But I did need to add more soy to give it more of an Asian flavor. Thanks for sharing!
I doubled the sauce and threw in some veggies for stir fry with the shrimp. To me it didnt have that much flavor beyond the red pepper or at least not near as much of it as I was expecting. Did up the spice a bit but beyond that it wasnt bad, it just wasnt the best.
This recipe is good, but I gave it four stars because I prefer it with added vegetables, uncooked shrimp (cooked separately and added at the end) and fresh ginger. I added white onion, green onion, red and green bell pepper, pea pods and some carrot. The end product was great!
We had a package of frozen shrimp that we wanted to try something new with, and this came out great! We didn’t have red pepper flakes, so we used 1/4 tsp of diced jalapeño pepper instead. We also used more green onion, closer to 1/2 cup. The shrimp was raw to start with, we briefly fried it with the oil/garlic until it started to all get pink, and it felt like it was cooked just the right amount by the time it was done simmering in the sauce. I’d love to make this again!
Doubled the sauce, didnt have corn starch so used 2x flour, didnt have green onions so used dehydrated onions, very good.
I used frozen, thawed raw shrimp and a bag of frozen stir fry veggies. I doubled the sauce and served with white rice. It was delicious. My husband loved it, and I plan to make it again soon!
Cooked 18 shrimp first in large pan, onion & garlic second, sauce (double it next time!), then returned shrimp to pan to heat through. Quick & easy, very spicy.
This review is only for those people that made it with a sauteed yellow onion because they did not have any green onions. It was just ok; it was quick and easy to get on the table.
