Everyone enjoys this odd concoction of ingredients, which includes crisp bacon, Italian tomatoes, brown sugar, and green beans. Normally, it doesn’t last very long.

I’ve been making this recipe for many, many years. I actually sat on it for quite a while because my mother was sorta leary to try it. And when I finally made it we were surprise at how wonderful it truly is. It is so easy to make and so flavorful. When I make this for a social function everyone who has tried it loves it and wants the recipe. You can tweak the recipe however you want, but the original recipe is a keeper.

Delicious! My only change was I added a splash of apple cider vinegar. I think substituting ham for bacon, might be tasty, as well. Thank you for sharing!

This was delicious! I cut the recipe in half because it’s only 2 of us. I used a red onion in place of green onions because I didn’t have green ones . Such a different and easy way to spruce up can green beans. Thank you!

I skipped the bacon so that my vegetarian wife would eat them. Tasted great.

I didn’t change a thing and it was so good, I literally wanted to drink the sauce!

I have a recipe just like this. For those that thought it was either too sweet or would like a dish with a little more sweet and salty flavor to it….

Very good, but I halved the sugar (and it was still a bit sweet – however if you add a splash of vinegar, you get a nice sweet and tangy sauce) and I did use fresh green beans cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces. Since I used fresh, I let them stew for a good half hour. One of my favorite green bean dishes!

I halved the recipe for my husband and myself: he loved it and ask I use the full recipe next time! It was terrific!!

Sweet Italian Green Beans. I doubled this recipe and I personally need a little less diced tomatoes. I will adjust the dried oregano and dried basil to taste. Great recipe!

I used fresh green beans and cooked them about six hours in slow cooker, very good.

I liked the concept of this recipe, forgive me I made changes that made it my own. Fresh green beans and tomatoes, never canned! Added mushrooms and various Italian spices with only a tsp. of brown sugar. So good! It went well with my Italian meatloaf and yellow potatoes.

These green beans were pretty good from coming from a can. I didnt have bacon but planned to use real bacon bits. I realized after beginning the recipe I only had about a teaspoon of them left. So, I cooked them with a tablespoon of grapeseed oil about 30 seconds. Then added the green onion and garlic and cooked another 30 seconds to 1 minute. The green onion I had were large, so I just used two. For the Italian tomatoes I pureed a can of stewed tomatoes with about 1/4 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, in my Vitamix on low. I then added the rest of the ingredients, but only did about 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and it was plenty. Served with mashed potatoes and meatloaf. ty

I think these are too sweet (3 stars) but my husband has more of a sweet tooth and thinks they’re great (5 stars). As written, the recipe is pretty sweet, so reduce or omit sugar unless that’s what you want!
