Ingredients

  1. 2 tablespoons salted butter
  2. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  3. 1/2 cup roughly chopped white onions
  4. 4 hot dogs, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  5. 1 cup ketchup
  6. 1/4 cup honey
  7. 1 tablespoon yellow curry powder, plus more for dusting
  8. Freshly cracked black pepper
  9. 2 servings frozen shoestring fries, cooked according to directions on package (frying method preferred)
  10. 4 hot dog buns, toasted on a dry pan

Instructions

  1. Cook the wieners: In a large pan, add the butter, oil and onions and cook over medium heat until the onions have softened, about 6 minutes. Add the hot dogs and cook, stirring occasionally, until the hot dogs take on some color, about 5 minutes.
  2. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, stir the ketchup, honey, curry powder and a few grinds of black pepper until combined. Pour over the hot dogs and onions and cook until the ketchup color deepens and the consistency thickens a bit, about 5 minutes.
  3. Build the hot dogs: Add an equal amount of prepared fries to each opened bun. Top with an equal amount of the curry wiener mixture and a dusting of curry powder to finish. Serve.

Really enjoyed the curry flavor and how the honey provided a good balance. Great way to jazz up some hot dogs. I’m not the best cook but it was very easy to put together and was a hit for dinner.

Great mix of flavors and simple to put together…unlike Jeff’s monstrosity with soooo many pieces parts to his. Kida loved it and the adults topped it off with a ice cold brewski!

Made this last night. Only deviation was we used sweet potato fries to overcome the lack of veggies. It was a complete hit with everyone in the family and I have been asked to make it again. Simple, cheap, and yummy.
