Sugar Cookie Glaze

  4.4 – 351 reviews  • Cookie Frosting

This glaze for cookies dries rapidly and has a strong, lustrous surface. Ideal as a foundation for cookies. Use as much food coloring as necessary to achieve the desired shade if you want to paint it to match any event. Every time you use glaze, stir it to keep it from drying with a mottled appearance as opposed to a solid color.

Almost identical to the recipe I use. Only difference is, I use 4.5 tsp of Milk and 4.5 tsp Light Corn Syrup. That is a total of 3 Tbsp liquid. Plus .25 tsp of Clear Vanilla extract. When outlining I don’t use all the milk, but then add the balance when ‘flooding’ the cookies. Dries Hard and Shiny.

Didn’t dry at all. Wasted over 1 dozen cookies.

I didn’t have any corn syrup on hand, so I substituted agave nectar and used whole milk instead of the water (per some of the reviews), and added 1/2 tsp clear vanilla extract (I needed a white-ish glaze), and it turned out great! I was even able to scrape up some of the drips and glaze a few more cookies before it started to harden. It’s a winner!

You can’t go wrong with this recipe. You thicken with more confectioner’s sugar to your liking as I did. But the the shine, it’s perfect! I added peppermint to the green batch, almond extract to the red and vanilla for plain white. It dries without cracking!

Easy to make but not much for flavor.

Worked well but needed to add more powdered sugar. Added maple flavoring too which was a hit. It did however take a long time to harden (24 hours) we were able to paint on it after a few hours but couldn’t platter up. Overall it worked well and we’ll definitely try again.

Next time I will bake to 14 minutes

Easy and pretty. I didn’t have any food coloring, so I added 1/2 tube of Crystal Light Strawberry. It gave the glaze a pretty pink color and flavored it as well. Nailed it.

Amazingly easy recipe that yielded great results!!! So pleased with this glaze. My 4 & 5-year-old daughters easily glazed our kitty and puppy cookies as evenly as two very young children possibly could. I did use milk instead of water. Thank you!

this is the second Christmas I have made this for sugar cookie glaze. sticky enough to hold all the sprinkles. dries hard for storage and stacking of cookies. love it. Also I make plenty so I can split it up and color with various food coloring.

I added more icing sugar to make it thicker because I had a hard time decorating my cookies as it was really runny. Overall it was a great recipe I’ll use it again!

This is the perfect glaze for frosted cookies that you want to stack or arrange on a serving tray. Drys to a hard shiny gloss finish.

This is my favorite way to decorate my cutout cookies, and I always get tons of compliments on the appearance and taste! Sometimes it takes practice to get the consistency just right, and using milk does help. You have to play around with the ratios and quantities a bit; it’s not an exact science. More milk = more matte, but it also makes the consistency thinner if you want it to spread/fill in an outline. I do also add almond extract for flavor. I use this glaze on the Crisp Sugar Cookies recipe and it’s fantastic. The almond flavor in the glaze pairs nicely with the vanilla in the cookies.

Followed this recipe exactly. Tasted good, but was too thin and runny. Ran off my cookies.

I make this glaze annually to decorate our family’s cream cheese sugar cookie recipe. It’s so easy and adaptable! I use milk instead of water, and add 1tsp vanilla for taste. Compensate for the added liquid by adding a bit more powdered sugar.

Perfect. I needed lemon icing. I used a 1 1/2 powdered sugar, 2 tbs of fresh lemon juice, 1 tbs of syrup and few drops of lemon extract. This is a keeper!!

LOVE this glaze!!! Like another I paired this with the best sugar recipe on this site and thought they are great pair! After reading reviews I will try with milk next time and not water. BTW the corn syrup I used had vanilla in it.

Good recipe! I used a small paintbrush to color the cookies. Unfortunately I did not have a pastry brush.

This was an easy to use kid friendly recipe .We loved it.It dries quick and tastes better than royal icing.Tip it is a little bit running I just added a little bit more powdered sugar until I got the consistency I desired.
