Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 ½ cups chicken stock
- ¾ cup quinoa
- 1 ½ teaspoons curry powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 (14 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
- ½ cup toasted pine nuts
- ½ cup raisins, soaked in hot water and drained (Optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir onion and garlic in hot oil until onion is softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in stock, quinoa, curry powder, salt, pepper, cumin, and cinnamon; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until quinoa is tender, about 20 minutes.
- Stir beans, pine nuts, and raisins into cooked quinoa. Serve warm or cold.

Excellent recipe, easy and tasty. A nice savory breakfast dish as well as a side. I use more garlic (3 cloves instead of 1), and I prefer it without the garbanzo beans. Also, I use golden raisins which means you can skip the soaking, as long as they’re plump.
Great base recipe with lots of room for play. I didn’t have pine nuts or raisins (I live on a sailboat without access to stores), so I tried it with raisins and corn and it was delicious. It is an interesting mix of sweet and savory. I added some extra madras curry powder and garam masala instead of cinnamon. Yum!
I made it according to the recipe except the pine nuts (was afraid to try them after hearing that some experience a metallic taste for weeks after eating). It’s really good, but next time I am going to skip the Garbanzo beans as I don’t really care for the gritty texture. But the recipe is easy to make and very good.
Truly delicious. I like to try a new recipe exactly as described, usually, but today I had no pine nuts, so I sliced some almonds roughly to provide texture and that worked well.
This was sooo good! Served as a side to grilled salmon and a perfect pairing. Simple seasoning that packs a punch. Texture is amazing, grain plus whole chick peas plus tiny pine nuts plus the winner… (I used golden bc I find them to be juicier, no need to soak) raisins! Yum! All kids, husband and dinner guest loved this side.
My family loved it. We enjoy the taste of curry. The leftovers are great on a bed of romaine for a lunch salad.
This is quite good! Though, I would add more Raisons and stir in some coconut before serving and, perhaps some banana. I served it with broiled Alaskan cod.

5 Stars for flavour, ease and wholesomeness. Healthy ingredients makes this an excellent side dish for everyday dimners or parties. I didnt have raining so i used chopped dried mango pieces. I forgot the cinnamon but the sweetness was already there and although i love cinnamon i dont think it was critical..plus you can add it after anyway. Great resi
I tripled the garlic. It’s really good! Delicious. I gave half to a friend, who texted me rave reviews twice! And I kept half for me and my boyfriend, who also loved it and snarfed down most of it. 🙂
