Spiced Applesauce Bread

For making Classic Texas Caviar, canned beans work just as well as those that need to be soaked and cooked. Instead of using bottled dressing, measure your own vinegar, oil, and spices by taking a little more time.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 1 (9×5-inch) loaf

Ingredients

  1. 1 ¼ cups applesauce
  2. 1 cup white sugar
  3. ½ cup vegetable oil
  4. 2 large eggs
  5. 3 tablespoons milk
  6. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  7. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  8. ½ teaspoon baking powder
  9. ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  10. ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  11. ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  12. ¼ teaspoon salt
  13. ½ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Combine applesauce, sugar, oil, eggs, and milk in a large bowl; beat well. Sift in flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt; stir until smooth. Fold in pecans. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean, about 1 hour.

This recipe is great! With the spices I did a 1.5 : 1 ratio for cinnamon nutmeg and allspice. Also if you can- make your own apple sauce! I left mine a little chunky so throughout the cake had little cooked apple pieces 🙂

I do a farmers market and have a lot of different baked goods. I made this without the walnuts cause most of my customers are elderly, but I did replace them with the same amount of raisins and it’s a HUGE hit.

Good ,but mmm needed more spice.I added apple pie spice and cinnamon. Wasn’t as moist as I hoped. Will definitely make again.

Since I made my own applesauce, which had pear and apples in it, it turned out really nice and very moist and very tasty! Perfect recipe as it is, not sure about people’s review about measurements, but I always taste the batter before I bake it, to make sure it has all it needs. For a topping I just sprinkled a little turbinado sugar. I don’t like a very sweet bread, and it is perfect. Since I made my own applesauce, I did put 3/4 cup sugar and 1/3 cup oil in it. But in other words, fantastic recipe!!! Love it!!

I think this is a very flexible recipe. I’ve used it as the basic, but altered it by using chocolate chips, lemon and coconut, replace part of the flour with cocoa powder, added nuts, spices and other things (it’s called imagination). Highly recommend this recipe and play with it! That’s what baking’s all about!

I made it as the recipe stands and I should have read the reviews first. The bread is very moist and has a great crumb, however the flavor is very insipid. Both the amount of spices and a little edge are needed – whether through adding lemon or vinegar – to make this really good.

Excellent recipe. I used my homemade applesauce so cut sugar in half. I also doubled the spices just because I like the flavors. Bread is moist and very tasty. New family favorite.

Perfect! It’s super-moist and has the perfect texture. I only had 1 egg so I used 1/4 cup Greek yogurt as a sub for the 2nd egg. I used coconut oil and I used half the amount of sugar because my homemade apple sauce was very sweet and didn’t want a very sweet bread. Definitely a keeper!

It smelled so good cooking and was very moist.

Delicious. Next time I make it I might use a sweetened applesauce.

I gave this recipe 5 starts…..the flavor is just delicious. Although, I did tweek it just a bit. I added 1/4 cup bran and walnuts instead of pecans. I did also dust the top with a cinnamon/sugar sprinkle. Great recipe!

The bread is moist with great texture, however it lacked adequate spice to call it a spiced bread. I added extra cinnamon and also ground cloves to give it the jazz that it needed.

So good! I used raw sugar and I doubled the cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg because we like a lot of spice. I also used soy milk. This came out so delicious, and it was super easy!

Extremely easy to make, I didn’t have allspice so I doubled up the cinnamon and nutmeg and used walnuts vs pecans. Extremely tasty!

Making it for the second time in a week. My husband really liked it for both a breakfast item and to snack on. It’s really easy to make and turned out well.

It is delicious! I did make a few changes. I knew I would like a bit more spice, so I increased cinnamon to 1 tsp. I didn’t have allspice, so I used 1/8 tsp clove. Added 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/4 cup raisins. And, I reduced the sugar to 3/4 cup… it is still a sweet loaf. I used 3 small loaf pans, 4″x3″ and baked for 30 minutes in a convection toaster oven. Saving this recipe.

I’ve recently cut out processed sugar from my diet so I made homemade applesauce (honey crisp apples, pear juice, water, cinnamon, vanilla) and substituted Strawberry fruit spread for the sugar and almond milk for the milk. The result was fabulously moist and not too sweet.
