Ingredients

  1. 1 cup sugar
  2. 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4 large lemons)
  3. 1/2 cup fresh orange juice (1 large orange)
  4. 4 cups club soda, chilled
  5. Lemon slices (about 4 large lemons)
  6. Orange slices (1 large orange)
  7. 1 bunch fresh mint sprigs, plus more for garnish
  8. Crushed ice
  9. 6 shots bourbon

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 1/2 cups water and sugar in a small saucepan over high heat. Cook until the sugar is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Cool the simply syrup completely. This simple syrup can be made 1 week in advance and stored, covered, in the refrigerator.
  2. Combine the simple syrup, lemon juice and orange juice in a pitcher. Mix in the club soda. Add the lemon slices, orange slices and mint.
  3. Fill glasses with crushed ice. Add 1 shot bourbon to each glass and fill to the top with the sparkling lemonade. Garnish each glass with mint.

1 1/2 cup of water AND 1 1/2 cup sugar? Or 1 1/2 cup water AND 1 cup of sugar?

Trying this today to see if I can use it for my upcoming Derby party. I’m going to substitute Simply Lemonade for the 1 cup of lemon juice and 1 1/2 cups of syrup. Hopefully this will work just as well.

This was delicious! I used 2 meyer lemons and 2 regular lemons and one large juicy orange. I infused my simple syrup with a little bit of mint. We love bourbon, so this will be made again, maybe a pool drink for Memorial day!! Thanks Bobby!
