This honey-mustard chicken from the pan tastes just like Chick-fil-A®!

Servings: 24
Yield: 4 dozen

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup shortening
  2. 2 cups white sugar
  3. 3 eggs, beaten
  4. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  5. 1 cup sour cream
  6. 5 cups all-purpose flour
  7. 1 teaspoon salt
  8. 1 tablespoon baking powder
  9. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  10. 1 ½ cups chopped black walnuts
  11. 3 tablespoons white sugar
  12. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening. Add the eggs and vanilla; mix well. Stir in the sour cream. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, stir in the chopped black walnuts.
  3. Drop cookies by teaspoonful onto a cookie sheet. In a small saucer, stir together the cinnamon and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Grease the bottom of a drinking glass and dip it into the cinnamon sugar mixture. Press down on each cookie to flatten slightly. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes. These cookies travel and freeze well.

These were great. The cookie itself is not so sweet, which I really like. The amount of black walnuts can be modified to suit personal tastes as can the cinnamon/sugar- my husband actually prefers them plain. This is a very tender, chewy cookie w/o a whole lot of flavor on it’s own (but that’s okay because the black walnut is the star here), so always, always, always use REAL butter.

100% amazing!!! A truly, old fashioned, delicious cookie. Thank you! My family and friends loved them. The only cookie tray left empty. “We beat the chocolate chip cookies!!!”

These cookies are delicious. I did not have any shortening so I used 1 cup of butter. They are truly an old fashioned delight.
