Chicken biryani is a delectable rice dish from Pakistan and India that is traditionally given only on special occasions like weddings, parties, or festivals like Ramadan. Although the preparation is time-consuming, it is well worthwhile. The best type of rice to use for biryani is basmati.

Ingredients
- 1 pound mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons amaretto liqueur, or more to taste
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup cold espresso
- 24 ladyfingers, lightly toasted
- 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate, divided
Instructions
- Whisk mascarpone cheese, sugar, and amaretto liqueur together in a bowl until smooth.
- Beat cream in a glass or metal bowl until soft peaks form. Lift your beater or whisk straight up: whipped cream will form soft mounds rather than a sharp peak. Fold whipped cream into mascarpone mixture.
- Pour espresso into a bowl. Dip ladyfingers into espresso and arrange 12 dipped ladyfingers in an 8-inch square pan. Spread 1/2 the mascarpone mixture over ladyfingers. Grate 1 chocolate square over mascarpone layer. Repeat a second layer with remaining dipped ladyfingers, mascarpone mixture, and chocolate, respectively. Refrigerate tiramisu until set, at least 2 hours.

This is a terrific recipe, and very easy to make. I used unsweetened cocoa powder in place of the chocolate shavings, as other reviewers have done. Since I didn’t have any amaretto or cognac, I substituted creme de cacao…and added a bit to the coffee as well. Just a little more chocolatey goodness! It was a hit for Easter dessert, and makes a lovely presentation when garnished with a few ripe raspberries.
Very easy to make, delicious and your family will be impressed. I used a half a cup of amaretto, an amazing flavor and smelled like Italy:) Love this recipe.
Loved this and it was super easy, but I have one question for everyone: When you say 1 pound of marscapone, do you mean 16 ounces or 8 ounces. I see different conversions and would like clarification.
So easy and delicious! I used cocoa powder instead of the chocolate shavings. I also added some liquor to the coffee . This is a keeper. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing! So easy and everyone loved it. I used cocoa powder on each layer instead of the chocolate shavings and added a bit more Amaretto. I added the 2 Tbs Amaretto to the Marscapone mixture and it had such a lovely texture and soft flavor that I didn’t want to mess that up so I added a splash more Amaretto to the coffee. Turned out perfectly, not too strong. I needed more than 1 cup of coffee and had to make more, so it is true that you just dip the ladyfingers fairly quickly. It didn’t turn out soggy though, so next time I will probably make 1.5 cups of coffee. I had to use pound cake because my store was out of ladyfingers, and it still turned out great. Will make again and again and thanks to everyone for the tips!
I made it 3 times this week to perfect it for my mom’s bday. Here is what I learned: 1) The marscapone needs to sit out to get warm for it to whisk easily. Don’t beat it to be faster! That makes it curdle. 2) Coffee brewed at 3x the normal strength is almost as good as espresso. 3) Cocoa tastes better than shaved chocolate. 4) It’s significantly better after 2 days! Just as good as in an expensive Italian restaurant.
I made it as directed adding twice as much expresso to manage the lady fingers. My husband (who ate it) said it was better than restaurant quality tiramisu. I served it in a decorative ice bucket (clear glass). It looked much like a trifle without the gelatins, fruit etc. I shaved chocolate wheals above the top layer of grated chocolate.
Best Tiramisu I have ever made!!! A+++
This IS the classic Tiramisu recipe…except the chocolate should be substituted with cocoa as some have mentioned. But this is by far the BEST Tiramisu ever (and I’ve made & eaten many) PS…If your ladyfingers are too soggy then you are letting them soak in the espresso too long. They are like sponges so just dip them for a few seconds.
easy to make and a big hit
Recipe was easy to follow. I sprinkled cocoa over the entire top quite liberally, giving it a great presentation. Decadent. I will definitely make it again.
This is amazing!
Loved this recipe! It’s simple n fast. Best part is that no eggs!
SO delicious! It was a huge hit at my dinner party, everyone was asking for the recipe. The only thing i changed was using cocoa powder instead of the grated chocolate which i think made it more authentic.
Excellent and so easy! My go to for tiramisu recipe. 🙂
Easy and turned out great. The only thing is: I had to use more than 8 oz of espresso because ladyfingers absorb liquid very quickly. I’m not sure I would use so much espresso next time. Maybe next time I would even do one layer soaked (like the bottom layer) and the second layer unsoaked because although I love espresso it was slightly overpowering. It still gets five stars because it is so incredibly easy with no baking required. Can’t beat that!
Excellent easy recipe. I did change to Tia Maria instead of the amaretto. I like the added smooth coffee flavor it adds!
So good, we loved it! I only needed 1 oz of chocolate. I think I would’ve preferred cocoa powder overall though. Will definitely make again, thanks for sharing!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this recipe! This is the only way that I make my Tiramisu. Sometimes I use cocoa powder in place of the grated chocolate. What originally attracted me to this recipe many years ago, was that it does not use eggs…This is the BEST! 🙂
