Level: Easy

Yield: Makes about 24 cookies

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup (8 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  2. 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  3. 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  4. 2 large eggs
  5. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  6. 2 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  7. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  8. 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  9. Sprinkles, for finishing (See Cook’s Note)

Instructions

  1. Position racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter, sugar and brown sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or with an electric hand mixer), until light and fluffy, 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs and mix on medium speed to combine, then scrape the bowl well. Beat in the vanilla on medium speed.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Add about half of the flour mixture to the bowl of the stand mixer and mix on low speed to combine. Scrape the bowl well, then add the remaining flour mixture and mix on low speed to combine.
  5. Scoop the dough into 1/4-cup mounds. Place the sprinkles in a shallow bowl. Roll the balls of dough fully in the sprinkles and transfer to the prepared baking sheets, staggering the rows of cookies to allow them room to spread during baking. Gently press each cookie with your fingers to flatten.
  6. Bake, switching the baking sheets halfway through and rotating them from front to back, until the cookies spread and are lightly golden around the edges, 10 to 12 minutes.
  7. Let cool 5 minutes on the baking sheets, then transfer to racks to cool completely.

When we made these cookies they were so good! By the way in the ingredients you need baking powder instead of baking soda but overall they were so soft and delicious!

Awesome cookie. Defiantly the best sugar cookie recipe in my arsenal. However, in the ingredients list, is says baking soda and then in the recipe it says baking powder. First time I made them with soda and the turned out like flat discs. This was not too much of an issue because my son like cookies like that, but I wasn’t satisfied. So, I made them again using the ingredients list with the same result. Finally, I switched to powder and they were perfect. Crunchy on the outside while soft on the inside.

Perfectly soft sugar cookies with a great balance of flavor. Not too bland and not too sweet. The batter was a little too gooey to use a 1/4c as a measuring scoop, so I used a cookie scoop instead.
