Added 1 Tbs A-1 sauce for a little tang, Such an easy process to make this. Slow cooked for 10 hours (while I cleaned up and slept. I wish I had a potluck to take it to, but its just for me and my husband. It’s DELICIOUS!!!

I soaked the beans overnight, rinsed and boiled the beans for an hour in the morning, then put them in slow cooker. I had less ketchup so added 8 oz low sodium V8. I also used half the brown sugar and relied on the molasses for sweetness. I doubled the water, and cooked them on high because I dont think my slow cooker gets very hot. I waited until I got home to add the salt and bacon, about the last hour. They were tender, very flavorful, with just right dark molasses sweetness to them. Good amount but not crazy amount of sauce. Yummy to soak up with a hotdog bun!

beans were soaked overnight and cooked for 2 1/2 hours before put into slow cooker salt not added till cooking done beans were nice and soft . Only used 1/2 cup splenda brown sugar instead of whole cup, too sweet next time will forego sugar altogether, i don’t know what i could do to cover taste of sweetness ?

Great recipe. 6 hours on high,2 hours on low works great for me!

Let it cook for 8 hours and the beans weren’t even close to being done.

Sauce was tasty but beans did not soften up

The receipt was good, but to prevent having hard beans, after soaking overnight, drain then add fresh water and boil on the stove for 40minutes before putting them in the slow cooker.

This recipe is delicious. I cannot wait to make it again. Yum! I decided to make this last minute so I boiled the beans for an hour and added a bit more water to recipe. I also substituted half of the ketchup with chili sauce.

This recipe needed 2 cups more of water. Had to cook on slow in my slow cooker for over 12 hrs. Would not make again.

First off, never add the salt or other ingredients until beans are 95% cooked.(You could add a ham hock or seasoned meat about halfway through cooking though) I see a lot of people saying the beans are hard. It’s not the recipe’s fault. Certain ingredients stop the beans from cooking and they will always be hard. Some beans are old and take 3 hours to get tender, fresh beans maybe take and hour. Test a bean or two first. Always pour off the first batch of cooking water,(supposed to get rid of some of the gas) Not my fav recipe but it is good.

Awesome!! It’s become a demanded thing in my house

Taste wise, these are great. However, I started soaking them 16 hours before cooking and I still had to cook them on high in order to get the beans to cook. Probably will not make again.

Cooking this recipe for 2 days is ridiculous! Soaked the beans for 12 hours on Friday, started cooking in slow cooker at 9:00am on Saturday and here it is 1:30 on Sunday and they still aren’t done! Absurd!

I made a few changes and my family thought the results were fantastic: – 4 cups dry navy beans instead of 3 cups – 1/2 cup brown sugar instead of 1 cup – added 1/4 cup (real) maple syrup – added 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce – reduced the ketchup by 25% – soaked the beans for 8 hrs. and then boiled them for 45 minutes. – added salt at the very end (helps beans to soften) – thick bacon, yes, but also additional pork added (your choice what cuts)

A solid recipe!!

I did find that the beans were quite hard after following the directions and cooking for about 24 hrs. I wasn’t gong to give up what I had started (after I heard that the beans were old via a website). I added about 2 cups of water and what a change the beans had. Nice and soft just what you want. It seems the answer is more water. “How can you tell if dried beans are old” I have no idea. ps: a bought a smoked jowl instead of bacon. Same taste 1/4 of the price of bacon.

Really good. I add a bit of barbecue sauce as well. Definitely soak the beans overnight first.

I use a full bag of beans before I realized it said 3 cups and it came out fabulously! Loved it and it’s my go to beans recipe!

A little too sweet, I learned to boil the beans for 1 hr instead of soaking, works great
Jessica Fernandez
After soaking them overnight I cooked them on high for 8 hrs and they were still kinda hard. Wondering if there something I could do to soften them more? Not as sweet as other recipes too.

I have tried twice now. The sauce behind this is good, but the beans did not cook through. I have soaked them over night both times, and I also boiled the beans for an hour before adding to slow cooker. The first time I did the recipe exactly as written, the second time I slow cooked them on medium for 11 hours! I will not do this recipe again. That’s six cups worth of wasted beans when this was all said and done.
