Slow Cooker Chicken Cacciatore

Zucchini bread with a dash of coconut is my favorite dish. After shredding the zucchini, be sure to squeeze out as much liquid as you can to avoid having tooggy bread.

The name is actually from an Italian opera singer who originated this (my mom studied opera in New York and learned how to make it from Italians)

I made it in a smaller portion, used only 1 large Chicken breast, and added carrots and celery since I didn’t have any green bell pepper. I also added 1/2 c. fresh parsley. It’s in the slow cooker now! Can’t wait to try it. I did add a pinch of Cayenne pepper too.

4 stars for ingredients other than chicken. Need bones for flavor, would include some thigh and leg meat. Also skin adds flavor and requires some amount of browning first; might only add 5-10 minutes to prep time.

Mine turned out so garlicky, but, delicious

This recipe was a HUGE hit for this family of five. I combined the original recipe as well as a few suggestions from some of the reviews. I put 4 fresh boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot. Added 1/2-2/3 jar of Rao’s Marinara spaghetti sauce, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 can tomato paste, 6 oz of red wine (small bottle of a Cabernet Sauvignon), diced onion (1/2-3/4), diced pepper (1-1.5 green), 2-3 teaspoons of minced garlic, sprinkled in oregano, onion powder, and basil. Mixed well and covered the chicken with the sauce. Cooked on low for 4-5 hrs. Around the 4 hour mark, I took the chicken out and cut into sections before placing back into the sauce in the crockpot for the remainder of the time. Placed on top of linguini that’d already been plated and it was delicious!!! Kids were asking me to make it again before they’d even finished their dinner.

Great I added diced tomatoes and tomato sauce in place of spaghetti sauce. Added a little burgundy fresh basil and itialian herbs. Also added celery and a little carrot. perfect.

It tasted great but there has to be a way to keep the spaghetti sauce from getting so diluted

I thought the sauce was way too watery. Also, I checked it and with my slow cooker set on low, it was almost too done at 5-1/2 hours (175°) which is “done” but it continues to cook because the sauce is so hot. If I make this again I will make my own marinara sauce and use a little bit more of it than the recipe called for. I will also check it after 4-1/2 hours and until it is at 165°, then turn it off.

I cooked in a slow oven, instead. Used chicken breasts and thighs. I added a can of tomato paste, as others have suggested, and highly recommend that. Also added 1/3 cup of white wine. It was delicious!

Even the toughest critic love this. I played with spices and veggies but the base recipie is great!

Really enjoyed this and will make it again!

It was fine, but this is such a bare-bones “recipe” that I would barely call it a recipe. It’s just the basic building blocks of chicken cacciatore, but no spices or anything. I added some spices and still found it pretty bland, but it wasn’t terrible or anything.

I added basil, and an extra clove of garlic

Good recipe, my wife and I enjoyed it. Served it with rotini. Next time I may cut the onions and peppers in small strips versus dicing. I did add 1/2 of a red bell pepper for color.

So good and so easy!!!! I added red pepper flakes to kick it up a bit.

Followed the directions, but the flavor of the dish was overwhelmed by the green bell pepper. I prefer red, yellow or orange bell peppers and should have substituted. I can’t say I’ll ever make this recipe again.

Used chicken thighs and Rao’s Marinara. Added sliced black olives, and a few more seasonings. Delish!

I have made it many times, changing things up now and then. Great recipe

It is like mom’s
