This is so good and easy to make. I used 2 cans of soup and no onion soup mix. Doubled the vegetables and seasoned with garlic and parsley salt. Cooked on high for six hours then cooked 10 hours overnight. Turned out perfect def a do over
Excellent recipe. I think this is the best beef stew that I ever had. So flavorful and tender. I made no changes to the recipe. The only changes that I’m going to make next time is to add some extra potatoes and carrots, as I think some of the reviewers have done.
Not sure yet. First, I started it in the morning, but I don’t have to have it ready for 11 hours, so I figured that would work. I didn’t add carrots (to me it changes the flavor too much) or celery (I didn’t have any), and I added green chile (a must where I live). I plan to add broccoli and cauliflower with four hours left. I’ll let you know how changing out the vegetables works.
It was okay. If I make it again I will not add mushrooms and there was too much meat. Also would add more flavor.
Really good. Like others said, no need to cook overnight. Eight hours on low in the crock pot was just fine. The sauce was a little soupy, so I added some cornstarch to thicken. The family doesn’t really like mushrooms, so more for me.
Well, actually GETTING READY to make it! But may I just say the veges smell DELICIOUS! Will try to follow up with a better review, but I know it will be amazing from the ingredients and methods. 🙂 Thanks for the recipe!
My husband doesn’t like beef stew, but said this was the best stew he had ever had. High praise from him!
I did not use the golden mushroom soup, nor any mushrooms. I used 2 packets of Onion Soup mix, and maybe a teaspoon of Browning and Seasoning sauce.
Followed the recipe with a few changes and it was so tasty. Omitted the mushrooms and added onion instead of soup mix. Lightly browned the stew meat and onions in olive oil, adding 2 tablespoons of flour and a half cup of water to make a little gravy. Added 1 can of stewed tomatoes, 1 can of corn, and 1 cup of greens beans 1 hour before end time. Also seasoned with lemon pepper and parsley.
Great recipe i added more seasonings along with some Worcestershire sauce. I thickened it at the last hour with flour. It didn’t require to be started the night before. 8 hours on high was perfect.
I made a similar version of this just because I did not have all the ingredients it asked for. I used all the listed veggies but used more, used cream of mushroom soup, beef broth and water, 1 can tomatoes paste. I am on a restricted diet from potatoes so I just left them out. I have made this recipe exactly the way it is written also and love it. It’s a great meal and easy to prepare in a crock pot. I did brown my meat first in flour with salt and pepper in a fry pan in olive oil. I like my stew more of a gravy and the flour helps with that.
The only adjustment I made to this recipe was more vegetables and less beef. It is a good stew even if it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.
I made this a few days ago and my family liked it but I found it very salty (and I am known for loving salt). I did add both beef broth, as recommended by others, and some beef Better than Boullion in it so perhaps that put it over the edge. I would make it again but guard against getting it too salty.
Not a fan. Was probably the onion soup mix.
Have made this twice in the last 6 months or so. Didn’t cook overnight, just 8-9 hours in the crock pot & it was AWESOME! Family ate it right up. Serve with a french loaf for soaking up the juices. Keeper recipe!
I added a few things to try and offset the dandelion flavor the celery left from leaving it in the crock pot. Would not make this recipe again.
My husband said it was the best I have ever prepared. The only change was tenderized stew meat to replace the regular chunks.
Very good beef stew recipe.
This turned out great! Didn’t change too much, used 2 packets of dry onion soup mix instead of one, used 1 can of beef broth instead of water, and used baby bella mushrooms (personal preference). Also only used 2 pounds of meat instead of 3 (three pounds just seemed like alot to me!). And there was no need to thicken it, turned out perfect! Will make again and again!
This was a great starter for stew. It needed more flavor though. I had to thicken at the end. About an 45 minutes before serving I melted 4 TBLS of butter and slowly added 1/4 cup of flour. Once that was all mixed I slowly added juice from the stew until it was nice and creamy. I slowly added back to the stew. It gave it a great consistency, just like Mom used to make. Thanks for sharing.
Yum! I began it about 10:30 pm last night and we ate at 5:30 today. Delish! I added some Worcestershire sauce and also added vegetable broth instead of the water. The only problem was, I couldn’t sleep much since the wonderful aroma kept me up! lol
