Reviews
This recipe never fails! I have made it countless times over the years and it tastes so good every time! It is delicious on it’s own without changing it and is better than the can even though I love the can! It ups the flavor profile significantly and still holds on to that great tangy taste we all know and love. When it comes time to saute the onion and garlic, to give it an extra punch of flavor and heat, I usually add another 1/2 onion, about 1/2 cup diced green pepper, 1/4 – 1/2 tsp. red pepper flake and several dashes of Frank’s Red Hot sauce together before adding the ground beef.
This is my favorite sloppy joe recipe. I will never ever eat Manwich again
Pretty close to the canned stuff..will not make again
it was the best
The only change I made was used regular tomato sauce mixed with Asian chili garlic sauce because it’s all I could find. Oh, and didn’t use the slow cooker. No need.
This recipe was ok, but not any better than Manwich from a can.
Best sloppy joe recipe I have ever made and I honestly think it’s because the recipe calls for the El Pato Salsa de Chile Fresco. I have been eating sloppy joes for at least 40 years and this recipe was a hit! Thank you!
The recipe as written did not taste good to me at all. I ended up adding so many different thing to make it palatable for my family that I wished I had used a different recipe from the start. Too acidic with the vinegar, but not enough tomato or sweet.
I did not have hot Tomato sauce so just used regular. This was a delicious sloppy Joe recipe and meat mixture held up well on toasted bun. Served with dill pickles and yellow mustard on the side. Hubby had seconds, proof we had a winner!
No. Not at all what I was hoping for. Had to add extra onions, tomato sauce, salt…. Rather make up my own recipe.
I do not recommend pink lemonade margaritas with these sloppy joes. I slept very good. Only one was needed to satisfy. I hope my kids make sloppy joes again and add thick cut french fries!!!!
Looks easy and tastey
Excellent sloppy joes! I made it as written with just a few changes I picked up from other reviews. I used the entire 7.5 ounce can of El Pato hot tomato sauce, diced a small red bell pepper with the onion and put twice the chili powder, 1 tsp. I had to go to several stores to find the El Pato salsa de chile fresco, and finally found it at Walmart in the Hispanic food section.
Delicious! I’ll make it again! Used Herdez salsa, otherwise followed the recipe.
I made this recipe. I plan to keep this recipe, it’s so much better than canned Manwich. I didn’t precook the onions and garlic, I just tossed everything in the slow cooker. I added fresh chopped jalapenos and bell peppers. If you don’t like hot tomato sauce, just use regular sauce. I didn’t use hamburger buns. I served this over toasted garlic cheese bread slices by Pepperidge Farm. If you’re new to slow cookers, you can sometimes cook 2 recipes in one pot. I sliced zucchini and placed the zucchini on one side of the pot. The tomato sauce from the sloppy Joe recipe is delicious over the zucchini.
This is a recipe I have been loving since I was a little girl. It was a staple at all of our family functions. No matter what the occasion, someone always brought this to a pot luck. It is always delicious no matter what you add or leave out!
Excellent receipe
I think these were the best sloppy joes I’ve had especially with the buttered garlic buns toasted. I didn’t have Mexican tomato sauce so I just added some chopped pickled jalapenos to regular tomato sauce .
Wow… simple and good… had to tweek like everyone else but so worth it… I didnt have brown sugar so i substituted honey and used salsa for a bit more chunky texture… this is definite add to my “go to” recipe book!
Best sloppy joes I’ve ever had. Just the right combination of ingredients and a slight kick.
Needed a little more spice for us…but was very good.
