Ingredients
- 1 (18.25-ounce) box chocolate cake mix (recommended: Betty Crocker)
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/2 teaspoons almond extract, divided
- 1/2 cup white cranberry juice
- 1 (16-ounce) can white frosting or 1 (16-ounce) can chocolate frosting
- Colorful jimmies
Instructions
- 2 old fashioned glass soda bottles, 1 cola, 1 lemon-lime
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly spray 2 (8-inch) round baking pans with baking spray; set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine cake mix, oil, eggs, 1 1/2 teaspoons extract and white cranberry juice. Use an electric mixer to beat cake batter on low speed for 30 seconds. Scrape down sides of bowl and beat for 2 minutes on medium speed.
- Divide batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake in preheated oven for 32 to 35 minutes, or until tester comes away clean.
- Let cakes cool completely. Use a cookie cutter or water glass to cut out a circle to fit the soda bottle – it will nest into cake.
- Add remaining 1 teaspoon extract to frosting and stir thoroughly. Frost entire cake. Sprinkle with colorful jimmies. Insert soda bottle into hole and serve.

You are to put a candle in the bottle for the birthday wishes.
holy cruddin puddin this is delish. being a girl with tons of girl problems i luuuuuuv this cake. it makes all my cramps go away and also gives me a healthy glow when i rub a little bit in my cheekbones. i have recommended this to so many others and it was just LOVE! one thing though. make sure you do use soda bottles in this because it ain’t no party without a soda bottle in your cake. fo real.
It sounds like a normal a b day cake. I dont really think a good chef like Sandra should be making something so plain.
On the show the called it the soad cake or something like that they cut out the cirlce and put a soad in there…didnt really make sence to me then and still doesnt!!!
I was reading over the recipe and instructions and I agree with Anne, what in the world is the bottles for? I’m looking at the picture of the cake and see no bottles at all. I didn’t see this episode so maybe that is why I truly don’t understand. Sandra usually has banging recipes but this one is quite weird. NO thanks on trying this one.
Is it just me or is this “recipe” simply instructions to bake a box of cake mix and then frost?
Really? Seriously?
I have a few other questions: What does one do with the other layer? Why insert soda bottles? What does one do with the cut-out cake? and Why on earth would the soda flavor matter at all?
I would have rated zero if that was an option.
Having just watched the show this recipe is listed for, I am rather confused. On the episode, Sandra uses a store bought torte, which she ices, then lets a child sprinkle the jimmies on. I saw nothing about soda bottles.
To someone at Food Network: please hire a competent editor to make sure the recipes you list are actually the ones shown on the episodes. This is a problem, especially for Tyler’s Ultimate.
it is good and yummy yummo bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
