This recipe is nutritious since it contains vegetables including broccoli, onion, sweet potatoes, and homemade vegetable stock. It is extremely pleasant and filling when coupled with the protein-rich quinoa. On our menu, it is now a mainstay. Add dill, parsley, or broccoli as a garnish.

I did not really care for this dish but my family loved it and took some to their friends. Changes were top crust was crescent rolls Grands bought by mistake. The family liked the thick crust. I added cheddar cheese on top of sausage mix and then put last crescent rolls over that.
The cream cheese to sausage radio was too high. Way too much cream cheese. We took a couple of bites, tried to like it but yuck! I threw away the entire pan and my husband destroyed the printed recipe. Luckily I I had cut the recipe in half so I didn’t waste too much.
A great basic recipe! Every time I’ve made it, I’ve added more to it. Tonight: 2 small grated potatoes, 1/4 chopped onion, clove minced garlic, a couple of sprinkles of TJ Umami AND at last minute decided to add about 3/4 cup leftover artichoke-jalopeno dip. My husband went crazy over it. I guess it is a winner, but I say, just have fun with a good basic recipe!
It need a little more to give it more flavor.
Hooray for simplicity!
I love it! So easy. I add chopped onion and a little garlic powder. Once I added a can of chopped green chiles, but I couldn’t taste them at all. Also I use the Pillsbury baking sheets if I can find them.
Added some country gravy when finished. Oh my!
Add mushrooms onion top with graded cheese
I made this with sweet Italian sausage, spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese. Should have baked it a little longer, but otherwise, delicious! A break from our usual Friday frozen pizza!
I made it at breakfast and then picked at it throughout the day. YIUM! I made it with pork sausage w/1/4 ts of sage. In mine, also added onion and Cumin.
It was too simple. I added onions, shredded potatoes, mushrooms and whole kernel corn. It was amazing, Similar to a shepherd’s pie, but without the gravy.
I’ve made this recipe for years now. I add pepper Jack cheese and scrambled eggs to mine and then put the other crescent roll on top…..my family absolutely loves it like that!!
This was excellent! Big hit with my family! We used hot Italian sausages! Definitely making this again!!
I made it as written, since I was in a hurry. It was tasty, but in a bland sort of way. I liked the simplicity, but if I make it again, I’ll add a lot of sauteed veggies to the mix, with some scrambled eggs and a tender crisp veggie for texture. Maybe even just the eggs with peppers.
Great! You can mix various vegetables into the skillet as you’re browning the sausage. I usually add at least a 4-ounce can of sliced mushrooms and half a diced onion, and have also added about 3/4 cup of shredded cabbage (or even some well-rinsed sauerkraut) to the meat mixture. Just make sure any vegetables are done cooking before you stir in the cream cheese, because the casserole isn’t in the oven long enough to do any more.
This was soooo good! I did make some changes, and I know some people don’t like when we do this, but too bad. I’ve been cooking for over 50 yrs and usually make a recipe I think has potential the way my family likes things. First, I only made half the amount as there is only my husband and myself now. I used one can of crescent rolls and spread out 1/2 in the bottom of a greased 8X8 pan, making sure the seams were sealed. I pre-baked this at 375 degrees for 8 minutes. While this was baking, I sauteed some diced onion, green pepper and mushrooms in a TBS of butter. When they softened, I added about a cup of Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles, which are fully cooked, and 1/3 of an 8 oz brick of softened cream cheese, then stirred it all together until the cheese was melted. At the same time, I whipped up 4 eggs with about a TBS of Half & Half, some garlic & onion powder, celery salt, black pepper and dried parsley, then scrambled them in another pan until they were soft set. After the bottom crust was ready, I spread the sausage mixture on top of it, then layered the scrambled eggs on top of that, then sprinkled about 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top of the eggs. I then added the other 1/2 can of crescent rolls on top of the shredded cheese, stretching the rolls out to cover the dish, and continued to bake for another 18 minutes. The crust was flaky and the filling had lots of flavor. My husband and I both loved it! I will be making this again and again! Thanks to the OP for the base recipe.
For me this seemed like a lot of bread vs filling. It was good though, and something different from the usual
This was so easy and we really enjoyed this casserole. We will definitely make it again.
I’ve been making this recipe for a long time. It’s always a hit for all ages at work & school events. It’s great with just the 3 ingredients, but I LOVE that it’s so customizable! The kids love when I add maple syrup and to the mix for breakfast. My parents love to add Trader Joe’s everything but the bagel seasoning on top. And it’s awesome with spicy sausage peppers and onions for dinner. There’s a million other fun things you can do with it but it’s always easy and gets rave reviews!
This is a great incognito meal for vegetarians!! I’ve made this recipe for years and it’s a family favorite, this time I subbed in Vegan sausage (LightLife) and mixed in some siracha for heat and it’s still delicious 🙂
I used hot sausage
