Simple Hamburger Stroganoff

  4.3 – 901 reviews

Since I dislike the cost of beef tips, steak, or roast beef as well as the amount of time it takes to prepare them, I came up with this simple recipe for hamburger stroganoff. My rendition is delicious and creamy.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 20 mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. 1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
  2. 1 pound lean ground beef
  3. 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, cut into pieces
  4. 1 (6 ounce) can chopped mushrooms, with liquid
  5. 1 (.75 ounce) packet dry brown gravy mix
  6. 2 (10.5 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
  7. 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
  8. ½ cup milk

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rapid boil. Cook egg noodles at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, 7 to 9 minutes. Drain.
  2. At the same time, cook ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Stir in cream cheese, mushrooms with liquid, and gravy mix; cook and stir over medium heat until cream cheese melts, 2 to 3 minutes. Add condensed soup, sour cream, and milk; cook, stirring occasionally, until smooth and creamy, 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Drain egg noodles; stir into the beef mixture. Cook until heated through, 2 to 3 minutes.

Thank you for sharing! This was really good. I thought two cans of soup is a little much so I used 1.25 cans. It’s very creamy almost too creamy probably need to cut a little of cheese and cream but very delicious.

Very forgiving recipe. Used what I had on hand. 1 packet of brown gravy mix, 1 can of cream of chicken/mushroom. Half a soup can of whole milk. Halved the cream cheese and used a generous dollop of sour cream. Sautéed 1/2 an onion and 1 tsp minced garlic once the meat was mostly cooked. The tiny onion bits still had a little crunch. Added super delicious texture and taste. Didn’t have any mushrooms on hand and only 12 oz bag of noodles. Turned out great. Picky teenager even loved it.

This was very simple and delicious! Of course like all internet recipes I didnt have all ingredients so no sour cream extra milk and a little butter, added a dash of cayenne pepper and used elk hamburger meat. But all n all … took about a minute to make a happy plate! Thanks for making me unafraid of making this dish it’s now a top fav!!

This really was delicious and very easy to make – I’m excited for the leftovers!

Will be making this again! It makes a lot. I was surprised how flavorful it was since there were no added seasonings. My 6 year old grandson had 2 helpings! That’s a huge success. He is a very picky eater.

Make sure you have an xtra large pan for all ingredients. It makes a large amount. I used 12oz Egg noodles ( should have used the 16oz), added a can of sweet peas, and sauté baby bells in place of canned mushrooms. Also added a bit of beef bullion powder to hamburger. Great move. Excellent dish. Added a bit more garlic to taste.

Very good. I subbed 2 packets of au ju instead of brown gravy and used a little over a cup of milk because it was too think. But overall it was quite tasty.

This is really good. I added extra milk because I did not have sour cream, and i used tricolored rotini because Noone had any egg noodles(my favorite). I have never had “real” beef stroganoff but it’s better than velveeta and mcCormick seasoning. I love it!!!!!!

I sauted onion and garlic before browning the meat. After reading other reviews,I used one can of soup and half of the cream cheese. Once the cream cheese was melted,I added the milk, sour cream and soup to the beef mixture.

I loved this recipe. It was very creamy and it made a huge amount. Lots of left overs to freeze. I did add 3 cloves garlic, salt and pepper to taste and fresh mushrooms along with the canned mushrooms, but other than that I followed the recipe.

I agree with the comments to use half of the sour cream, soup & cream cheese and to add onions, salt and pepper to taste. I also added half a pack of onion soup mix instead. Came out great. It’s a keeper.

my comp said it was great, I thought it was alright. no complaints of the recipe though

I was kinda surprise at how bland this recipe was. It’s probably the most bland meal I’ve ever had. However, perhaps it is common sense (I’m a newbie in the cooking world), but adding salt and pepper quickly turns this into maybe a 4 star. It amazes me how drastically it improves the taste.

This is a great base – great recipe and love the idea of adding cream cheese. I cut the milk in half though and didn’t even add sour cream as it would have ended up too water. Family loved it !

A bit bland – also, too much sauce for the amount of meat. I live with a “carnivore” so if I make this again, I will add more meat and cut down soups and cream cheese. Honestly, I like the package sauce mixes for stroganoff better.

This was great. I used fresh mushrooms though and sautéed them with an added onion and some celery as I was cooking the meat. I added garlic powder, ground pepper and Worcestershire sauce, and threw in a couple eggs too. Best stroganoff ever!
