Ingredients
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- 1 (10 ounce) can beef broth, divided
- 1 (10.5 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
- ½ teaspoon dry mustard
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, beaten eggs, onion soup mix, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until well combined. Pour in about 1/2 of the beef broth; continue mixing until mixture is thoroughly moistened. Divide into six equal portions and shape into patties.
- Heat a Dutch oven over medium heat. Cook patties in the hot pot until browned, 3 to 5 minutes per side. Discard excess grease, leaving patties in the pot.
- Stir together condensed soup, remaining beef broth, and dry mustard in a medium bowl until smooth; pour over browned patties in the pot.
- Bake in the preheated oven until patties are no longer pink in the center, about 45 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).

I liked this; but my husband did not. I would not judge it by his taste, though. He is a very picky eater,(just like a kid, lol) It’s good and I would probably make it again if he liked it. I would probably make less though since it is just the two of us. Unless you like leftovers, I would make less if only for two people. And I also agree that I would make more of the sauce for this as I really enjoyed it and would want more.
My family loved it! I read some comments before making, so decided to add some garlic powder and a little worcestershire sauce to add a little more flavor and it was not bland at all!! I also omitted the salt and it turned out perfect. Will make often!
I made this but my hubby hates mushrooms so I substitute Heinz bistro Au Jus gravy or brown with onions gravy, which ever I have on hand, for the mushroom soup. Also use Lipton beefy onion soup mix instead of plain onion. I do remove a couple steaks when they’re almost done to a separate baking dish and add sliced fresh mushrooms to the remaining steaks, as the rest of us love them.
Very good. I only eat meat on weekends. I defrosted my ground beef but had no idea what to prepare. 15 minutes on All recipes.com and voila! Dimple ingredients readily available in the fridge or cupboard. I did add Worcestershire to the sauce. served with a green salad and parmesan couscous.
This turned out great! I made a few small changes, however. I didn’t have beef broth on hand so I instead dissolved a beef bouillon cube in 2 cups of hot water–this was pretty salty so I didn’t add any salt to the recipe. I didn’t have Italian flavored bread crumbs & the bread crumbs I did have on hand was pretty flavorless so I added about 1/2 tsp garlic seasoning to it. I skipped the mustard entirely. Everything else I did the same but I made the patties extra thick & fried them in a frying pan. Then I put the patties on a cookie sheet lined with foil & mixed the soup & 1/2 cup of the bouillon broth together & poured it on top. In retrospect, it might have been better to put the patties in a casserole dish instead of a foil-lined cookie sheet as the soup mixture sort of baked itself into a caramelized state. In some ways, this made everything more flavorful but the soup mixture didn’t stay liquid enough to act as gravy. All in all, however, it was a hit with my family.
I made this recipe just as written. It was delicious and everyone enjoyed. We will definitely keep this in our favorites.
Light and flavorful
I have actually made this recipe a few times and it has always come out delicious. I did change the recipe a little for my taste. I add a 1/2 a cup of oatmeal, 1/2 cup of bread crumbs with the ground beef. Sauteed a 1/2 and onion with a bit of broth till tender. I used one can or bottle of brown gravy whatever I had in the pantry added a bit of water and season accordingly (keep tasting while cooking) I can cooked everything on low heat on the stove for 15 minutes. I also used a touch of cornstarch slurry to thicken the gravy slightly at the end and it is a perfect dinner.
I am the submitter of this recipe, which we love at my house. I often use Panko bread crumbs instead of Italian seasoned ones. Also, I usually bake it about an hour to reduce and thicken the sauce. If you want more sauce for the meat or for potatoes, you can easily double the sauce mixture. Kaye
Family loved it. I added some brown gravy mix and water to make more sauce. Will be making again.
The whole family enjoyed this. I didn’t care for the Italian Seasoned breadcrumbs and will just try plain next time. Also, I plan to add diced fresh onions, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture going forward. Thanks for submitting!
The meat patties were delicious but I didn’t care for the sauce too much. For some reason, mine turned out greasy tasting…. and I wiped the pan clean after browning the meat (85% lean) so it wasn’t from that. I wouldn’t normally use a cream soup for this dish but I will definitely use the meat recipe in the future and combine that with a gravy in the future.
Love how simple this was. Not a huge fan of the mustard in the gravy. I baked for about 30 min and they were done for me but we butcher our own meat and I used 1 1/2 lb package of beef. Will throw some onion in when browning the patties next time.
Absolutely delicious, made some small alterations and add ins. It came out wonderful!
Easy recipe. I made it today again. I use venison instead. I use what seasoning I have on hand and add fresh mushroom to the gravy.
this is a very flavorful recipe…. although I did customize it a little because I substituted 1/2 ground beef with ground Elk meat… Everyone loved it.
Very tasty and pretty darn easy too. My only suggestion would be to double the sauce/gravy. We definitely needed more.
Awesome! My new go to for this dish. I didn’t have ground mustard so I had to omit that but I did chop fresh garlic and add it to the meat mixture. Also, I added fresh cremini mushrooms the last ten mins of cooking. Was awesome! Thanks a lot!
Did not have any onion soup mix so did my own seasoning. Turned out perfect and even the leftovers were good!
Way too salty with the onion soup mix. Next time I will make it with onion flakes minus the onion soup mix. Had great flavor other than the salt factor. Husband loved it.
I made it for the first time today. However, I tweaked the recipe a little by substituting the ground beef with ground turkey and the packet of onion soup for actual chopped onion, and it tastes AWESOME! I definitely will make this dish again!
