Sesame Grilled Salmon

Delicious fish with sesame grilling. An excellent main meal. This dish tastes great when accompanied by grilled yellow bell peppers, green beans, and wild rice flavored with herbs.

Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  1. ¼ cup light soy sauce
  2. 1 ½ tablespoons honey
  3. 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  4. 1 clove garlic, minced
  5. 1 pound salmon fillets
  6. 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  7. 2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Whisk soy sauce, honey, ginger, and garlic together in a bowl until marinade is evenly mixed. Set aside 1/4 of the marinade.
  2. Place salmon fillets in a shallow dish; pour the remaining marinade over the salmon. Cover dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 5 minutes.
  3. Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Remove salmon from marinade, shaking to remove excess marinade, and place, skin-side up, into the hot oil; cook for 4 minutes. Discard unused marinade in the shallow dish. Flip salmon and drizzle the reserved marinade over salmon; sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  5. Cook until fish flakes easily with a fork, 5 to 7 minutes. Flip salmon, remove skin, and cook 1 minute more.

Very good way to cook salmon. As a substitute if you do not have honey maple syrup works superb.

This was great! Instead I roasted it at 400 for about 10-20 minutes over zucchini and onions. I also added a little red pepper flakes. Love the simple ingredients.

I followed the instruction pretty close but I did 2-3x marinade based on quantity served and wanting the marinade to cover the filets more. It looked amazing and tasted great. Myself I would probably add a little more honey or something to sweeten more than recipe called for. Also I put a little more of the marinade in the pan to cook on to the filets. I like it that way. To each there own. Great recipe to tweak how you like.

I was a bit concerned when grilling it in the pan when it started to look burnt so I lowered the heat a little & just kept an eye on it and trusted the directions given. Turned out quite good. I liked this as is, except maybe a bit more garlic added to the marinade, just for a little more flavor. Otherwise I’d make it again.

My husband liked the salmon but it definitely didn’t cook in the time it said in the recipe. I had to cook it significantly longer. It got almost burnt on the outside and raw in the middle so I had to keep putting it on the heat. I had to remove the thinner part so it would still be eatable. I would suggest finishing the cooking off in the oven.

I will definitely make this again. It uses ingredients that are staples in our house, so nothing special was needed, and it was delicious. I used thawed salmon filets, which can always benefit from some marinade. The changes I made were: 1) marinated the salmon for 2 hours, 2) actually grilled it on an outdoor grill, so 3) used extra sesame oil to oil the salmon for grilling and put sesame seeds on near the end. I intended to use black & while sesame, but somehow my white ones were hiding, so just used black ones. Served with whole wheat orzo and a salad. Looking forward to doing this again!

This was an easy to follow recipe and the salmon turned out perfectly. I would use less soy sauce but mainly because it was a little salty for me, otherwise I would have rated it 5 stars.

I forgot the sesame seeds, but still loved the taste. I grilled it on my gas grill, it was great! I added Mirin (rice wine), so not sure if that did anything special to it. I’m going to make it again with the sesame seeds. It’ll probably be even better!

Family loved it an making a second time now.

1st salmon recipe I’ve seen that said discard the skin, that was a good idea. Paired with a pinot noir as per google suggestion, also broccoli and carrots. Delicious

The oil and marinade burned in the pan. Mine looked like some of the pictures with a black crust. It was OK – I prefer pan baked to frying in a pan. I also beg to differ that prep is 10 minute considering I had to measure the items, mince a garlic, and grate a ginger root it took a bit more time

It’s better to sear the meat side for only three minutes and cook the skin side for 6 or 7 minutes to make it crispy

ehhh, it was ok

I am I’ll definitely make again

Wow! This is the best salmon dish I have ever made. While cooking it, I felt like I was in our favorite Japanese restaurant having dinner because of the aromas given off. My only mistake was that I cooked it in a skillet on my gas cooktop. I had a lot of burnt flavors on the bottom of the pan. It was too hard to maintain temp and it got too hot. Next time, I’ll cook it in an electric skillet and see if that works better. It was so delicious!

I grilled it instead, being summer and all. My family loves this sauce!

No changes n full of flavor

Best salmon ever!

Delicious! Eyeballed the ingredients. Not exact measurements. Marinated for an hour. Watched the salmon closely on the frying pan as each stove is different. Turned out flavourful, moist and juicy.

Just curious why it’s called grilled sesame chicken and it’s not grilled. Other than that it turned out well in the pan!

Perfect, flaky fish with the timings given and, surprisingly, despite the short marinade time, just the right amount of flavor. I was concerned as I had no ginger, that the soy would be too strong but not an issue. This will be a go to.
