Ingredients

  1. Cooking spray
  2. 16 to 20 wonton wrappers
  3. Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  4. Hot mustard powder
  5. 4 tuna steaks (about 5 ounces each)
  6. 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  7. 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  8. 2 teaspoons wasabi paste
  9. 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  10. 1/4 cup freshly chopped scallions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. Arrange wonton wrappers on prepared baking sheet and spray with cooking spray. Season the tops with salt, black pepper and mustard powder, to taste. Bake 6 minutes, until golden brown and crisp.
  3. Meanwhile, coat a stove-top grill pan or griddle with cooking spray and set over medium-high heat to preheat. Season both sides of tuna steaks with salt and black pepper. Place tuna on hot pan and sear 2 to 3 minutes per side for medium doneness.
  4. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, lemon juice, wasabi paste, and sesame oil. Transfer tuna to a serving plate and spoon dressing over top. Sprinkle the top with scallions. Serve wonton chips alongside.

We followed the recipe and measured everything. The sauce was perfect accompaniment to the sashimi grade tube we got. Light sear on both sides. My only adjustment would be to add more wasabi powder next time to kick it up a notch.

I prepared this for grilled swordfish. I didn’t measure exactly so that may have been the problem. Basically the sauce tasted like soy sauce. I was looking for a wasabi aioli type of accompaniment to the fish.

This is a great recipe for Tuna. Its easy to make and the sauce is absolutely delicious which makes the dish even better. I suggest serving it with grilled veggies and a tossed salad with Asian Ginger dressing to compliment the sauce on the Tuna!

really good – liked that the wontons are baked not fried

If you are looking for a quick recipe to make seared tuna than this is the one! Tastes great and takes about 20 minutes.

i saw the original airing; the recipe doesn’t follow same path in preparation! on air, she deep fried the wontons, whereas the recipe online calls for preheating an oven to 400 degrees, and using cooking spray! obviously, she loves her cooking spray! be that as it may, what would possibly be considered a different approach, would it end up with the same taste, I think not!

I served my tuna on top of a bed of steamed rice flavored with coconut milk. I love my tuna medium rare, just be sure and buy sashimi grade. My local grocery store sells it fresh frozen in the back, you have to ask your seafood dept. On the side I had sliced mango. It was like a slice of Hawaii for dinner.

Rave reviews from all. Left off the wasabi sauce for the kids and made a tartar for them. Hubby and I loved the wasabi sauce!

I would have to say we loved the Lemon-Wasabi Dressing. I could eat this meal once a week.
