Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 pounds (4 fillets) catfish
  2. 2 teaspoons salt
  3. 1/2 cup ketchup
  4. 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  5. 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  6. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  7. 1/4 cup brown sugar
  8. 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  9. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  10. 1/2 cup chopped sweet onion
  11. 1 lemon, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Line a 9 by 13 by 2-inch casserole dish with aluminum foil. Sprinkle the bass with salt and arrange the fillets in the casserole dish.
  2. Make the basting sauce by mixing the ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, butter, and onion. Pour the sauce over the catfish and bake until the fish flakes easily with a fork, about 20 to 25 minutes. Baste the fish, with the sauce in the pan, every 10 minutes as it bakes. Remove the fish from the oven and using pancake turners, carefully transfer the fish to a serving platter. Garnish with lemon slices and serve.

I really liked this recipe. It came out pretty good and it didn’t look so bad. I was expecting the worst by the reviews but I poured it on top and followed the directions. I used the sauce for 5 fillets instead of 4 and the sauce seemed to be perfect for the 5. So maybe with 4 it would have been too much. My children do not even like fish but asked for seconds. I was amazed! I will use this recipe again. So easy to follow. My 4 year old enjoyed helping mommy make it!

My husband and I both liked this dish and would make it again. The catfish was cooked perfectly after 20 minutes and by baking it on 300 low and slow, it keeps the sauce from breaking. Next time I make it, I would cut the sauce in half and add a little more salt and pepper at the end, but it paired well with rice and sauteed spinach.

This is an outstanding recipe!! It goes really well of rice. I have made this dish at least five times now.

This recipe was absolutely disgusting! The fish’s consistency was a step above baby food and the sauce was nothing special and breaks while cooking so it makes it look super unappetizing. I’m starting to question whether or not these 2 ladies know good food because this recipe is seriously questionable. Run away from it! Don’t be lured in!!! Words cannot express how awful this recipe is.

The dish was so-so. I have mixed feelings about it. First of, the sauce turned out nothing like the picture shown above, and the consistency was sort of runny and not appetizing to look at. But, when you actually taste the sauce, it isn’t so bad and paired well with catfish. However, after eating it for awhile, it tasted a little too heavy for my liking and made me feel gross afterwards, like I just ate an entire bucket of greasy fried chicken. I’m not sure I would make this dish again; the dish was too heavy for me, and it was fish!

This recipe didn’t turn out well for me, the consistency of my sauce & the color of it, didn’t look nothing like the picture above. Mayonnaise to me is, fat-free Miracle Whip, and maybe that affected the outcome of this recipe! The taste of the combined ingredients were, well, I’ll just say okay. I gave this 4 stars because I didn’t use catfish, I used whiting fillets, and it wasn’t meaty enough for me. On a scale of 1 – 10, I rate the sauce a 5. BUT… I gave it this rating because by using fat-free Miracle Whip, the results could of been of my own doing, and MAYBE not because of an issue with the recipe itself. I suggest using real mayonnaise, and level it off, like you would do flour when baking — it may come out redder. I used a heaping 1/2 cup & it came out the color of chipotle sauce. You might want to use catfish as stated too, or cod.
