Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 (4 ounce) salmon fillets
Instructions
- Combine water, soy sauce, brown sugar, olive oil, lemon juice, cornstarch, garlic powder, and black pepper together in a saucepan; cook over medium-high heat until sauce is thickened, 5 to 10 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Arrange salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet. Brush sauce on both sides of each fillet. Fold aluminum foil loosely over fillets and seal edges together creating a packet.
- Bake in the preheated oven until fish flakes easily with a fork, 12 to 15 minutes.
- Bring remaining marinade to a boil and serve alongside cooked salmon.
- For added flavor, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of either apple cider vinegar or fish sauce.
- Want to spice it up? Add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne red pepper.
- Grapeseed oil can be substituted for the olive oil.
- Cooking on the grill: Prepare as directed and create foil pouch to marinate according to your schedule. Cook on grill-top in the pouch for 12 to 15 minutes and at the very end take the fillets out and give them a grilled flavor.

My wife loved it, I did too. I am thinking next time I might add a bit more garlic powder or fresh cloves.
It turned out really great!! I bumped up the serving size and I certainly had plenty of extra sauce, so if you don’t wish for excess you could cut that down in quantity. It took more cornstarch than anticipated, but that’s pretty consistent with most recipes when you want it a specific thickness. But this is a delicious recipe and I will be repeating it!!
I used this as a marinade for the fish 1st then after I put the fish in the oven. I heated it up ,thickened with a slurry and sauced the fish out of the oven. OUTSTANDING!!!
Very flavorful, easy to make.moist and delish!
After taking this out of the oven for 13 mins the salmon was so undercooked. I put it back into the oven not in the foil tent for another 10 min.
great but sweet still loved…by all two of us
Turned out very delicious!!! My whole family enjoyed it!
Family loved it!
This was a simple and great tasting. My wife loves Salmon and I surprised her with this dish. She LOVED it. Definitely will make it again! The only thing I had questions on is the sauce. It says it will “thicken”. Mine didn’t really get overly thick when I made it. I think next time I will mix the cornstarch in a bowl of cold water before I add it to the mixture. The recipe didn’t delineate how it is to be done. just said add.
Yes
This is some of the best salmon I’ve ever had, the sauce is tastes amazing and it’s a super easy and quick recipe! A new favorite for sure!!!
It was a great hit at dinner, it was delicious! Everyone loved it. Thank you.
Loved This recipe!!!! I did not have Soy sauce so I used Tahini, it was Awesome.
OMGOODNESS. RESTAURANT WORTHY- the only switch I made was Splenda br sugar cos my 89-yr old Mamma is diabetic! She’s still raving about it 15 min after dinner!!!!!
We haven’t tried the cake yet but I did everything the directions said and the cake still cracked.
Very easy. Very Delicious.. I just skpped the oil in the sauce.
I made a stew with marinade with tomato, bokchoy, onions.Added cilantro. Did not add brown sugar.Very good!!!
I had no lemon so I used fresh squeezed orange. I also added a bit more starch to make sauce thicker. The salmon came out perfect. I enjoyed this meal very much and will be making it again.
Made it just as the recipe called for and it was excellent
I had everything on hand which is always a great start! I had to add a little extra cornstarch to get my sauce thick enough. Plenty of sauce to use and put on some rice, quinoa, or whatever side to soak it up. Would make again for my salmon.
Easy. Yummy!
