Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 3 ½ cups farfalle (bow tie) pasta, uncooked
- 1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bring a pan of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the pasta, and cook until tender, about 8 minutes.
- Crumble ground beef into a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring constantly until evenly browned. Drain excess grease, and stir in the tomato sauce, sour cream and thyme.
- Place the cooked pasta into the bottom of a 2 quart casserole dish. Pour the ground beef mixture over the pasta. Cover with a layer of spinach. Top with shredded cheese.
- Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until heated through and lightly browned on the top.

Quick, easy and delicious
I was so disappointed in this recipe. I followed the directions exactly. It was edible, but it was very dry and bland. I had such high hopes. This made way more than six servings for me. Since I cannot afford to waste food, I put the remaining servings in small containers and put them in the freezer. Looks like it may be a while before I try another recipe.
I enjoyed this, although I read the recipe too fast and only used 3oz of pasta! Ha! It was actually plenty. I also used fresh spinach and not nearly 10oz, subbed Greek yogurt rather than sour cream and used 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning too. Very nice dinner!
I used ground turkey instead off beef but it came out delicious
Good basic recipe-you’ll need to adjust spices and maybe have additions like mushrooms, onion, olives if you like them. Just taste everything before baking to make sure it’s flavorful. I made on stovetop and skipped the baking. As long as everything is completely cooked there’s no need to bake it.

I made this with more of a mexican spin because of what I had on hand..it actually turned out super tasty!! My husband is picky and loved it! I really was in the mood to try something different with hamburger but was limited on what I had on hand. Here goes…chopped up red onion cooked in olive oil until soft then added hamburger..added plenty of garlic salt, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic salt…cooked until hamburger was done..drained grease..put back in pan added 1 can mild green chilis, one can tomato sauce, one can mild rotelle tomatos, stirred and cooked all through..did not add any thyme or any other spice…I only had egg style noodles but they were great and will use them again..I olive oiled a 9 x 11 gIass dish, spread cooked noodles out evenly in dish, stirred in one package uncooked fresh spinach into the hamburger mixture then poured/spread all evenly over the noodles, and spread a package and half of mozzarella cheese evenly over it all…cooked on center rack in oven for 30 min at 350 and honestly it really turned out so pretty! I should have shared a pic! Made a Cesar salad to go with it, with olives, Parmesan, croutons and a few tiny tomato’s..It was a nice combo…hope this is helpful just thought my spin was a little different than what I had seen so thought I’d share =)
I gave this a 4 because the meat sauce mixture definitely needed seasoning. I added a small onion, 1/2 tsp of onion and garlic powder and reduced the thyme by half. Thyme has a very powerful flavor and even by reducing it it was still present and tasted great. I also salted the meat pretty generously. I used fresh baby spinach- on the bottom of the pan and on top of the sauce. I thought with the added spices it was very good. I didn’t think adding spaghetti sauce and fresh garlic would enhance the savory creaminess of the thyme and sour cream. I’m glad I didn’t use those.
Based on the many 5 star reviews I made this for dinner last night. I should have heeded the description “quick and delicious way to get kids to eat spinach!” more closely. It was bland and uninspired and I will not make it again.

Good way to use up some spinach and ground beef! Kinda like making your own sauce. I found that the recipe made more than enough for a 9×9 pan, you probably could split it between 2 pans.
This is great and even better with a few changes. After making it a few times as written I started using Italian sausage instead of ground beef which made a huge difference. Not bland at all. I use pasta sauce instead of plain tomato sauce and fresh spinach which I wilt in the sausage/pasta sauce. I spread a layer of cream cheese and sour cream over the pasta, dot the top of that with black olive halves and top with the sausage/pasta mix, then add the cheese on top. Delicious! Thanks for an excellent recipe!

Followed the recipe to the letter. It turned out really well. Next I may add a little salt and onion to the ground beef.
Unless I’m following a recipe for baked goods, I use most recipes as guidelines and not absolutes. I made this dish for dinner tonight and made a couple of modifications to suite my taste. Turned out delicious! I cooked 1/2 lb. ground beef, 1/4 lb. Johnsonville Spicy Italian Sausage, a small diced onion, and about 4 cloves of garlic in a pan. Seasoned with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning.m Turned off heat and melted in 8 oz. of whole milk Ricotta cheese. Stirred in a jar of Classico Traditional Sweet Basil spaghetti sauce. Turned heat to low and in batches, added most of a 10 oz. bag of pre washed baby Spinach until wilted. Tasted it to make sure it didn’t need more salt and pepper. Cooked my bow tie pasta to al dente, drained and added the meat sauce to that. Poured in a 9×11 casserole dish and topped with shredded Parmagiano Reggiano and Mozzarella cheeses. Baked with foil 15 minutes and then without foil for 10 minutes more. Delicious! Thanks for the inspiration!
I made this with spinach, sausage, diced tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms and shredded cheese…. I only had rotini pasta in so it had to do… lol
My family liked this alot and I will make it again. I changed it up a bit. I used fresh spinach I added chopped onion and garlic and for the pasta I used the tiny Orecchiette type.My family really likes that because it adds pasta without taking away from all the other flavors.
This was actually a pretty good recipe with the exception that the sauce and noodles need more salt and seasoning because otherwise it tastes really bland
Sorry! This is one of the worst tasting dishes I have ever made. Not one ingredient had any flavor. Nothing had any seasoning, not the meat or the spinach. Frozen spinach needs a little help. The canned tomato sauce was so bland and boring, so artificial. Might be because I grew up with home made sauces. I did not care for the taste of the thyme in this dish either. I guess I am more a “totally from scratch” kind of person. I was very disappointed.
