Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins

Yield: 1 9×13-inch coffee cake

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup white sugar
  2. ½ cup butter
  3. 1 egg
  4. 1 cup sour cream
  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  6. 3 cups all-purpose flour
  7. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  8. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  9. 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
  10. ½ cup white sugar
  11. 1 egg
  12. ½ cup chopped pecans
  13. ½ cup brown sugar
  14. ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  15. ⅓ cup butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Beat 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup butter, and 1 egg in a bowl until smooth. Add sour cream and vanilla extract; mix well. Stir in 3 cups flour, baking soda, and baking powder until mixture comes together in a sticky dough. Spread half the dough evenly into prepared baking dish.

  4. Mix pecans, brown sugar, 1/3 cup flour, and 1/3 cup butter in a bowl until mixture resembles a coarse crumble; sprinkle over dough.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 45 minutes.

Thank you Tammy! Love it! I make it just the way its written and its fabulous. But its a versatile recipe, my kids like it when I add spoonfuls of jam over the cream cheese. It works even when I cut the recipe in half for a smaller crowd. I have found wetting my hands with water helps spread the dough. My oven seems to run hot so I often cut back on the cooking time.

This cake is outstanding, especially when it’s right out of the oven. I think it’s reflective of Eastern European desserts. Not too sweet. I made it exactly like the recipe, and I put the pecans in my ninja bullet and mixed the topping with my hands. Also used Kerrygold butter. Nice.

I used a wax paper method to even out the bottom layer and flattened the spoonfuls by hand for the top before the crumble layer. It came together nicely and was moist. Very delicious!

Added 1 cup blueberries to it. Good stuff!

WOW! This is yummy! Just had a little corner piece, soon after it came out of the oven. It’s like if a creamy cheesecake and a coffee cake had a baby, this is it! I also had trouble spreading the dough at first, but then just used my fingers and it was much easier. I’ve made other recipes with sticky dough like this and that is what was recommended. I would definitely make this again!!

Made this recipe, as written, many times and everyone loves it. When adding the second layer of batter to the pan, I just drop rounded tablespoons over the top with very little spreading. Turns out beautifully.

It was a big hit at the church social today.

This was an excellent coffee cake that would get raves at any bakery or coffee shop!

Was very dry. I baked for 40 mintes–was well done. This was a shame because the taste was good. I did add cinnamon to the topping.

Very yummy!!

Delicious! Can’t get enough of it. Made it several times. So good with coffee while reading the paper in the morning.

My husband and I just didn’t like this. Too heavy and rich. We ate one piece and I threw the rest away. Made it just like the recipe, but it just wasn’t our cup of tea.

This recipe is absolutely AMAZING! However, I did make a few changes. I added 1 tsp. almond extract to the cake, 1 tsp. almond extract to the filling and I used slivered almonds instead of pecans to the topping along with 1/2 tsp. of almond extract.

This recipe is a keeper. I did modify. I only used 8oz of cream cheese but added 3 very ripe bananas to the mix and when I layered it I added fresh blueberries. Also by accident I only used one stick of butter in the cake batter but you would never know. It still came out very moist.

Moist. Delicious. Best coffee cake ever! Do not over bake

Doubled the crumble on top and added salt. Also doubled the vanilla extract and added vanilla extract to filling

Rating 5 stars, but we did add a heavy layer of glaze as it wasn’t sweet enough for our taste. It was better the 2nd day because the yummy, gooey filling absorbed into the cake. Will make again!

Was okay but required too many dirty bowls/utensils to be worth making again. The dough was very sticky and hard to spread… I’ll stick to my regular coffee cake recipe.

Ale is beyond delicious

Excellent cake had to omit the pecans as I had none and I can’t run to store to get some. Covid 19 has us locked down! Found a tip suggesting using parchment paper to smooth tne layers excellent!

So delicious! Cinnamon coffee cake combined with cream cheese makes for a delicious dessert/breakfast. You might want to add 50 percent more cream cheese if you’re a real cream cheese lover like me.
