I make mine for diabetics with sugar-free pudding, sugar-free cool whip, no marshmallows or bananas but I do use crushed pineapple in its own juice undrained and fruit cocktail with no sugar added in juice no sugar added. I never have any to bring home at get-togethers and I always make double batches.
This dish was at my church member’s Wedding sitting on the table. First Bite. I said mmm.. Who made this? One member said it’s called Watergate salad. Everyone fought over that salad like it was the last meal. It’s very good.
I add English Walnuts
So easy, so good. The grandkids love it!
Love this and have made it for almost 50 years. Only changes I make is using tropical fruit cocktail and about 3/4 cup coconut. It is so simple !!
My mom always made this for get-togethers I loved it then and now. The only difference 50 yrs ago was she always added pistachio slightly chopped so it was still nice chunks to it also hence the name. But I’m sure any nut would be great but leave them chunky for the texture change it is good.
I added a cup of toasted pecan, very finely ground. Then a handful of chopped Maraschino cherries. The whole family loves this fluffy, fruity combo.
I had bananas, red grapes and maraschino cherries also
So yummy. Take some to your next gathering and you’ll be a hit!!
So good! Also, I took the tip from another tipster, put your bananas in the pineapple juice, and add lemon juice, no browning! SO YUMMY! Oh and try the little flavored colorful marshmallows and pistachios on top!
Made it for BBQ, every bit was gone! An old dessert nicely done. Great taste; added 1/2 cup coconut and 1/4 cup almonds for a nice crunch!
I have been making this for years, minus the bananas. At Christmas, I add halved maraschino cherries for a festive look.
Light, tasty and good for a summer treat!
So easy and so good! We used two cans of fruit cocktail instead of the pineapple and the oranges and bananas all separate- recipe is so light a refreshing, especially on a hot Vegas day! Only took 5 minutes to and 30 minutes to chill! Highly recommend for all ages!
so easy and fast to make and so delicious!
Came out great! I skipped the bananas and put in more fruit and nuts and it tasted delicious!!!! Will definitely make again for gathering.
Great recipe. Love it.
This is truly one the best recipes of all time! I personally Ieave out the bananas. My whole family loves it.
It was amazing my family lived it. I did however add grated coconut and made it even better .
A tasty treat. I added real pistachios and some extra pineapple. Awesome fifties style dessert.
I will double the fruit if I make it again. Maybe add coconut instead of marshmallows too much fluff.. tastes good overall.
