My mother-in-law gave me the recipe for this maraschino cherry nut bread. It is easy to make, delicious, lovely to give as a present, and freezes well.
Prep Time: | 15 mins |
Cook Time: | 20 mins |
Total Time: | 35 mins |
Servings: | 4 |
Yield: | 4 sloppy joes |
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- ½ red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- ½ green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- ½ yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 cup cold water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- salt and ground black pepper to taste
- ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Add bell peppers, onion, and garlic; saute until beginning to tenderize, about 5 minutes more.
- Stir water, cornstarch, bouillon, and Worcestershire sauce together in a bowl. Add to beef mixture in skillet. Cover with a lid and reduce heat to low. Simmer until sauce thickens and veggies are tender, 7 to 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add mozzarella cheese; cover until melted, about 2 minutes. Stir to combine.
- Serve beef mixture on buns, Sloppy Joe-style.

Yummy and different recipe.
Yes I add Provolone cheese
This was a great recipe. Crazy but it did taste just like a cheesesteak. Easy enough for a weeknight and was good on toast as a leftover.
nice quick and easy. Doubled the recipe and it made enough to feed 8 people with several going back for seconds for like $12. Used hogie rolls and I set some cheese aside to sprinkle on top which added to the presentation.
Very good!! The only thing I changed was, I replaced the ground beef with thinly sliced steak
Drain beef very well before adding water.
Good but I used lean ground turkey and I think that affected the taste. It was just so-so the way I made it.
The boys loved it. Good game day slop, pun intended, to feed the masses, and it tasted remarkably like an actual cheese steak. Nice twist.
Wow! These are delicious! I hate regular sloppy joes, but I LOVE Philly Cheese Steak and these were spot on! Definitely drain your meat after browning. I’m sure that was implied, just not stated. I diced my veggies just so they’d distribute more evenly. The only thing I might change when I make these again (Oh, yeah! I’ll make them again) is to use regular white buns, only to make them more philly-like. But that’s just a preference. They’re fantastic as written. Thank you for sharing!!!!
